Job Title: Manager - Safety

Division: L'Oreal Dermatological Beauty

Location: Somerset, NJ

Reports To: Director - Health, Safety, Environment

What You Will Do:

Manage the plant wide Safety and Health programs, promote continual improvement processes for improving safety and health aspects (preventative, corrective and development actions) for the manufacturing operation, and exhibit strong teamwork, leadership and communication skills and possesses ability to effectively manage change.

  • Lead an interdependent safety culture and work proactively to accomplish the safety mission in the plant of zero accidents. Support and embrace the Quality and Environmental missions of the Plant.


  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as corporate policies.


  • Conduct routine audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and to ensure completion and effectiveness of safety training. Take appropriate follow-up actions and report progress.


  • Manage critical safety training such as Lockout Tag out, Confined Space Entry, Respirator, Forklift Driver Licensing, Hazard Communication, Blood Borne Pathogens, Machine Guarding, and Ergonomic programs to meet the needs of the workforce.


  • Train employees in accident prevention, accident investigation and effective post-accident follow-up action to prevent reoccurrence. Ensure and assist departments in the completion of incident investigations and development plans to avoid reoccurrence


  • Establish best management practices for the site to ensure a safe workplace where regulations are not applicable. Work closely with the corporate safety team to align factory program with corporate initiatives.


  • Build management and employee commitment for a safety program through influence and discipline.


  • Assist in developing multiple shift safety support teams.


  • Lead safety pillar program, and animate plant departmental safety steering committees.


  • Lead medical response team by recruiting volunteers as needed, facilitating monthly meetings, and organizing annual CPR and First Aid Training for participants.


  • Advise management of safety performance and compliance on a regular basis. Keeps management informed of accidents, root causes, and corrective actions.


  • Conduct ergonomic assessment for all jobs within the facility. Assist departments in developing corrective actions and identifying equipment needed.


  • Review procedures and make safety recommendations in accordance with government and corporate requirements.


  • Maintain required paperwork such as OSHA 300 logs in compliance with federal law.


  • Maintain systems qualifying for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program and manages VPP audit team.
  • Maintain systems qualifying for ISO 45001 certification.
  • Coordinate the site's safety committee and activities.


  • Flexible to be present during various shifts including occasional weekends to support the 24/7 operation of the facility. Flexible to provide phone assistance to Emergency Response Team needs after hours.


What We Are Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Safety or Engineering is preferred or other bachelor's degree along with certification as CSP Certified Safety Professional.
  • 5 years of Manufacturing experience with at least 3 years of direct safety management responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with special attention to detailed report writing and strong presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to interface with employees at all levels, outside contractors, vendors, etc.
  • Proven ability to engage workforce in safety initiatives, manage change to create interdependent culture.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and worker's compensation.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook skills required.
