You will partner closely with Transportation, Finance, Supply Chain, and external carriers/audit vendors to ensure compliance with contracts, rate agreements, and internal policies-while also modernizing processes and leveraging data to continuously improve outcomes.

  • Ensure freight invoices are accurately audited against contracted rates, accessorial, fuel surcharges, and service-level agreements.
  • Oversee exception resolution, root cause analysis, and recovery of overcharges from carriers and vendors.

Financial Controls & Compliance
  • Establish and maintain strong audit controls, governance, and documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation contracts, SOX requirements, and Canadian Tire financial policies.
  • Partner with Finance to support accrual accuracy, month-end close, and variance analysis related to freight spend.

Data, Insights & Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze freight spend trends, discrepancies, and audit findings to identify cost-saving and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reporting for senior leadership that highlight savings, compliance, and audit effectiveness.
  • Lead process improvements, automation, and system enhancements (e.g., TMS, freight audit tools).

Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Act as a key business partner to Transportation, Logistics, and Finance teams to resolve issues and improve upstream processes.
  • Manage relationships with external freight audit providers and carriers, including performance reviews and service-level outcomes.
  • Support contract negotiations by providing audit insights, dispute history, and data-driven recommendations.

People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of freight audit professionals.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
