Job Description:

As the Manager, Engineering of the Drill Autonomy and Technology team, you will be responsible for fostering and guiding a high-performing engineering team to deliver a system that provides operator assistance, remote control and autonomy for surface rotary drill. You will partner with various software and systems groups within Caterpillar in a team environment to design, develop and deploy solutions to deliver production software for use on Caterpillar and 3rd party machines.

  • Required Travel: Up to 10% (Domestic/International)

  • This position requires the selected individual to work onsite at the Laval, QC or Montreal, QC office.


What You Will Do:
  • Managing the engineering staff and activities with an emphasis on organizational goals achievement, professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Empower and enable engineers to achieve enterprise objectives while also fostering and developing them to be successful toward their individual career aspirations.
  • Monitoring and continuously improving product and process performance, quality and cost-effectiveness for all engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Providing leadership to create and maintain processes used to design and develop software, systems and new technologies.
  • Outline the strategy/roadmap to achieve these goals and lead its execution to completion by driving alignment across teams.
  • Communicate roadmaps and priorities clearly to a variety of stakeholders across the entire company, including close collaboration with engineering managers, senior leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or related disciple (or equivalent experience).
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Communicating for Impact: Knowledge of concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations.
  • Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
  • Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.
  • Influencing through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.


What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken) is preferred to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and ensure accurate interpretation of information.
  • Previous experience leading software and system development teams.
  • Previous experience with Product Development Lifecycle projects; understanding constraints and how to meet strategic goals through leadership and execution.
  • Leadership experience of teams in the Autonomous or Robotics industry including technical domain knowledge and awareness of customer challenges in this industry.
  • Knowledge of Construction/Mining industry.

Summary Pay Range:

$144,120.00 - $180,300.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.

- This position requires working onsite five days a week.
