Full Job Description
PURPOSES SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION

To support the Cooperative's mission by providing effective leadership and oversight for the Cooperative's engineering functions, including the planning, design, and implementation of electric power systems and infrastructure to support the reliable and efficient distribution of electric energy.

RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to Vice President of Engineering and Operations.
  • Directs - Various Engineers, Substation, Metering, and Communications Technicians, and other personnel as assigned.
  • Cooperates and coordinates with all persons, within or outside the Cooperative, and with all firms, organizations, consultants and other groups as deemed necessary to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS
  • Requires a thorough understanding and advanced knowledge of electric power systems, including transmission, substations, and distribution.
  • Requires a relevant Bachelor's degree and electrical engineering license.
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively with other personnel, groups/departments, consultants and vendors, and exercise problem solving and creativity.
  • Requires ability to utilize Microsoft office applications and other computer and mobile device software and applications.
  • Requires the ability to interpret and utilize various information and models.
  • Requires strong project management, budgeting, and resource allocation skills.
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Requires willingness and ability to work in a constant state of alertness and focus due to the role's impact on employee and public safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
  • Plans and assigns work to best utilize resources.
  • Ensures compliance with all Cooperative rules, regulations, and safe practices.
  • Assesses (and addresses when necessary) employee performance, assists in the hiring of employees, and recommends promotions, terminations, or other personnel changes within operational policy.
  • Supports the operations, maintenance, and construction functions within the Cooperative by providing technical and engineering support, including occasional after-hours calls.
  • Attends and actively participates in various meetings.
  • Directs the planning and/or design for the Cooperative's electric plant, including any required cost estimates, permits, easements, project administration, or contracts necessary to complete projects.
  • Directs the maintenance of engineering records.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as requested or required by the position.
