Job Summary:

Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and overseeing the department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards. He/she defines and establishes employee and department standards of performance, identifies and implements department goals and objectives, process management, and quality improvement. Maintains proper staffing levels, prepares and administers employee performance reviews, and partners with Human Resources in the recruiting and interview process.

Principle Responsibilities
  • Supports department operations.

    • Defines and establishes employee and department standards of performance.

    • Assists in the development of the department strategic and financial plan, proposed annual budget, and maintains accountability for the financial performance plan.

    • Identifies and implements department goals and objectives, process management, and quality improvement.

    • Documents and investigates complaints, policy violations, and other incidents.

    • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with field staff, union leadership, dispatch affiliates, and 911 public safety answering points (PSAPs).

    • Maintains quality standards and effective utilization of vehicles, personnel, and other resources.

  • Coordinates day-to-day support for employees and the department.

    • Maintains proper staffing levels.

    • Provides training, team building, disciplinary procedures, and professional development of employees.

    • Delivers feedback to employees through formal and informal coaching.

    • Prepares and administers employee performance reviews.

    • Partners with Human Resources in the recruiting and interview process.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field

  • 5+ years in emergency medical services or emergency medical dispatch

  • 5+ years supervisory or management experience


Licenses/Certifications

  • FEMA100-Intro to Incident Command System - FEMA Management institute required within 1 year of hire

  • FEMA200-ICS Single Res-Initial Action - FEMA Management institute required within 1 year of hire

  • FEMA300-Interm ICS for Expanding Inc - FEMA Management institute required within 1 year of hire

  • FEMA400-Advanced Incident Command Center - FEMA Management Institute required within 1 year of hire

  • FEMA700-Natl Inc Mgmt System-Intro - FEMA Management institute required within 1 year of hire

  • FEMA800-Natl Response Framework-Intro - FEMA Management institute required within 1 year of hire

  • Valid Driver’s License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid driver’s license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.64 to $61.76 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience and education. Additional incentives may be available, including discretionary monetary bonuses, goal-based bonuses, and other financial incentives.
