THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director, Employee Communications, the Manager, Employee Communications acts as a Communications Business Partner for assigned business units, developing and leading holistic communication plans, coordinating execution, reviewing content, and managing issues and crisis communications specific to each unit.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) oversees day-to-day corporate operations which support the investment activity of approximately $300B of gross assets under management. The Office of the COO encourages strong relationships with clients and the financial community, finds efficiencies in our systems and processes, ensures that we meet our Three-Year Business Plan objectives, and adheres to best practices in business operations planning. The COO is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Operations group at BCI, which includes the following business functions: Global Properties and Workplace Solutions, Corporate Risk & Audit, Finance, Investment Operations, and Technology.

The Office of the Chief Operating Officer provides strategic oversight and operational excellence across BCI's enterprise functions, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and effective execution of business strategy.

The Global Communications function operates within the Office of the COO and plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing BCI's relationships with its clients and stakeholders through world-class strategic engagement. Global Communications is responsible for managing BCI's brand, reputation, media relations, global profile, and industry partnerships. The function communicates effectively with both internal and external audiences, representing BCI's interests and strategic priorities. Overall, the Global Communications function is vital for ensuring stakeholder satisfaction, organizational alignment, reputation protection, and the organization's long-term success.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Post-secondary education in business, communications, public relations, journalism, finance or a related field

  • 6+ years of progressive communications experience within a professional, corporate service-based organization, including leadership experience; experience in financial services or institutional investing is an asset

  • An understanding of institutional investing across public and private markets (e.g., capital markets, private credit, infrastructure, and renewable resources) is an asset

  • Project management experience managing complex, integrated communication projects

  • Relationship owner with a service-first mindset, taking full accountability for business partner satisfaction, anticipating needs, building trust, and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders

  • Media relations experience is considered an asset, particularly experience managing media inquiries and responses on behalf of a corporate function and building that function99s external and internal profile

  • Excellent advisory skills and ability to influence senior audiences

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including multi-channel experience

  • Ability to develop relationships and navigate a complex global organization that operates in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency in using AI tools for content creation, analysis, and distribution, and curiosity and creativity in exploring how AI can improve both individual work and broader team processes

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Strategic Partnership & Planning

  • Integrates deeply within assigned business unit to understand its strategic priorities, challenges, and market context

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to business unit leadership, providing strategic communications counsel and identifying opportunities to advance business objectives

  • Develops, leads, and executes holistic communications plans (internal, external, and client-facing), ensuring alignment with unit and BCI-wide strategy

  • Advises on content strategy, leveraging Global Communications99 capabilities and asset-class subject matter expertise

  • Supports leadership communications, including executive messaging, town hall approach, and profile-building initiatives

Communications Coordination & Delivery

  • Acts as the primary 4;front door4; for business unit leadership into the broader BCI Communications function, managing the overall communications relationship

  • Facilitates seamless execution of communications plans, ensuring timely delivery across the Communications team

  • Engages and coordinates resources from across the Communications team (e.g., content development, execution, publication, event coordination) as required

  • Develops and reviews content produced by the communications team to ensure accuracy, quality, and alignment with business objectives and brand standards

  • Serves as the primary liaison for assigned business units99 content contributions to BCI's annual report and other key corporate publications

  • Partners with Digital Platforms team to track and report on communications effectiveness, using engagement data and feedback to improve reach, relevance, and impact

  • Keeps abreast of relevant industry-specific AI capabilities and best practices

Issues & Crisis Management

  • Establishes processes to identify and manage emerging issues relating to the business unit

  • Leads the coordination and response to emerging issues, developing communications strategies for different partners and geographies to mitigate impact on BCI99s reputation

  • Contributes to preparing BCI99s crisis communication plan and strategies, and supports BCI99s communication response to crisis situations relevant to assigned business unit

Leadership

  • Acts as delegate for the Director, Employee Communications as required

  • Fosters a culture of innovation and improvement, evaluating emerging technologies and approaches to enhance communications effectiveness and efficiency

  • As applicable, where the role has direct reports:

    • Leads, manages, and develops a high-performing team

    • Oversees their performance management process, providing mentoring and development opportunities

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

This role is based in our downtown Victoria, BC office. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely up to one day per week.

SALARY RANGE

The annualized salary range for this Victoria based role is CAD $125,000 - $150,000.

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package, including a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off. We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we operate and with consideration for internal equity and job structure. The base salary will consider factors such as the individual99s skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
