PERMANENT FULL-TIME POSITION IN NORTH VANCOUVER

Are you a strategic, collaborative, and community-focused leader with a passion for public safety and emergency management? Squamish Nation is seeking a Manager, Emergency Planning, Response, and Projects to join the Public Safety team within the Community Services Division.

This leadership role is essential to strengthening the safety and resiliency of the Sḵwxwú7mesh Nation. You will guide the development and delivery of a comprehensive emergency management program grounded in Sḵwxwú7mesh values, supporting the Nation through prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

What You'll Do
  • Lead and oversee the Nation's emergency management program, including strategic and operational planning, budgeting, and program evaluation.
  • Coordinate Nation-wide emergency and disaster response, including participation in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
  • Build strong relationships with internal departments to support capacity-building, training, and preparedness.
  • Collaborate with external partners including First Nations, municipalities, and provincial agencies.
  • Develop and maintain emergency management plans, policies, bylaws, and procedures.
  • Identify and coordinate emergency preparedness training across the Nation.
  • Communicate with community members during emergencies and support public education and awareness initiatives.
  • Deliver reports, data insights, and updates to leadership, Council, and community stakeholders.
  • Contribute to ongoing Public Safety initiatives and departmental goals.

What We're Looking For
  • Professional certification in Emergency Preparedness or a related field; post-secondary education in emergency management, public safety, or a similar discipline preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience in emergency management, including knowledge of BC Emergency Management System, ICS 200, and EOC operations.
  • Experience in project management, budgeting, and team leadership.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities and experience working in a First Nations environment is preferred.
  • Strong crisis decision-making, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to stay organized, adaptable, and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems; GIS experience considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and ability to travel between Squamish Nation communities.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call as required.

Salary: $80,026 - $120,040

Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
