Athabasca University's Faculty of Science and Technology is recruiting for a Manager, Course Production.

This is a two-year term position ending September 2028.

The Position:

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Manager, Course Production (CP), provides administrative and operational management to the CP unit in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and is a key member and strategic advisor to faculty leadership. In partnership with the Associate Dean, Learning and Assessment, this position provides course production and design leadership and innovation to the faculty in collaboration with FST leadership, staff, and other members of the Athabasca University community.

The Manager, CP, oversees and coordinates the work of the CP unit, and by working closely with the Associate Dean, Learning and Assessment, provides guidance to the Course Design unit to manage effective workflow, ensure quality, and utilize resources effectively to support FST's course development process.

The Manager, CP, also works with FST leadership to participate in strategic leadership for the Faculty. This position provides oversight for effective course development in the Faculty by creating learning opportunities, promoting awareness, supporting technology solutions, and contributing to new system and process developments.

Qualifications:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree. A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Seven to nine years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in a complex environment, preferably within a post-secondary institution, is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience leading course production teams in an online learning environment and project-related activities in a large and complex organization is required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project schedules, coordinating resources, monitoring progress, and mitigating risks to ensure targeted course deployment dates are successfully achieved.
  • Possesses working knowledge of educational learning platforms and learning management systems, technology-enabled learning strategies and tools, and project, task, and workflow management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, develop, implement, and maintain policies and processes related to course development, course maintenance, and Institutional standards, ensuring consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance as well as support efficient course production, ongoing course maintenance, and Institutional governance requirements.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated skill in digital publishing/course development and production processes, and editorial, project management, and copyright knowledge.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and interpreting collective agreements, policies, and procedures is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, lead change, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and provide strategic advice is required.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, collaboration, equity, diversity, inclusion, and service excellence is required.
