Full Job Description
Overview & Responsibilities

The Manager of Packaging Core Engineering - Americas provides direct leadership, management, and strategic oversight to a elite team of senior engineering discipline experts. This "Core Team" serves as an internal center of excellence, driving technical standardization and optimizing the project engineering order execution process across the New Apparatus business-including highly engineered packaged compressors, turbines, and non-packaged cryogenic pumps and expanders.

The role balances technical mastery, operational leadership, and commercial acumen. The Manager ensures that major auxiliary systems are clearly defined pre-contract and that booked projects meet Elliott's rigorous quality standards, budgetary targets, and delivery schedules. Additionally, this position plays a critical role in global process alignment and high-stakes international customer negotiations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Direct Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a highly specialized, mid-sized team (5-10 senior resources) of resident technical experts.
  • Culture & Performance: Foster a highly motivated, accountable, and productive working environment; manage hiring, performance appraisals, personnel development, and salary planning.
  • Knowledge Retention: Maintain the "Packaging Core" as a prestigious, high-standard unit that serves as a mentorship hub for the broader Project Engineering community.

2. Process Improvement & Global Alignment
  • Global Standardization: Identify process gaps across global operations and implement unique, scalable solutions to harmonize engineering workflows across the Americas, India, China, and Japan.
  • Operational Efficiency: Leverage continuous improvement methodologies (such as LEAN or Six Sigma) and technology to increase project capacity and volume without increasing headcount.
  • Quality & Compliance: Develop and maintain departmental procedures and work guidelines aligned with ISO 9001 requirements.

3. Technical & Project Execution
  • Auxiliary Systems Expertise: Oversee the technical specification management process, clarifying API design requirements for complex auxiliary systems (e.g., lube oil systems, dry gas panels, induction/synchronous motor drives) to enable Procurement to place clean, immediate supplier orders.
  • Contract Execution: Ensure Project Engineering accurately defines contract requirements pre-booking, verifying that auxiliary equipment is fully executable to project scope, schedule, and budgeted costs.
  • Crisis Resolution: Act with a high sense of urgency to identify, communicate, and resolve complex technical issues up the chain of command, collaborating with Project Engineers and Package/Control Engineering to keep orders on track.

4. Commercial Support & Customer Relations
  • Lifecycle Engagement: Evaluate and optimize Project Engineering's involvement across the entire project lifecycle, from initial proposal/bidding stages through to final shipment.
  • International Negotiation: Provide direct technical and commercial support during complex, multi-national customer negotiations, representing Elliott's strategic market position effectively.

Position Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of total experience in an engineering discipline, ideally within the oil and gas or turbomachinery industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct engineering management/supervisory experience.
  • Advanced engineering degrees and/or certifications in continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN / Six Sigma) are desirable.

Technical & Core Competencies
  • Product Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of rotating equipment and deep knowledge of global industry standards (e.g., API).
  • Project Management: Demonstrated expertise in defining and tracking project scopes, timelines, budgets, and cross-functional factory execution strategies.
  • Business Process Mapping: Strong critical thinking skills with a proven history of mapping and implementing large-scale manufacturing or business process improvements globally.
  • Cross-Cultural Capability: Extensive experience working within international, multilingual, and matrixed teams to execute global corporate objectives.

Internal Interfaces
  • Leadership & Corporate: Global and Regional Leaders, Sales Management, Marketing, and Service Groups.
  • Operations & Execution: Manufacturing Operations Managers, Procurement/Purchasing, Project Management, Document Control, and engineering personnel across all global sub-departments.

External Interfaces
  • Customer & Supplier Relations: Direct, high-level interaction with multinational customers, end-users, and major global auxiliary suppliers.
  • Travel: International and domestic travel is required as needed to support strategic corporate objectives, client negotiations, and vendor evaluations.
