Full Job Description
The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. Nine out of nine times in the last decade, IJM's Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people living in poverty.

As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Communications Manager, Global Marketing & Communications to lead marketing communications and live event messaging for IJM's major and principal donor initiatives.

This role serves as a communications lead for in-person events, marketing campaigns, and recruitment journeys. Working across major and principal donor fundraising and marketing teams, the Communications Manager develops integrated messaging strategies and creates compelling content for digital, print, event, and donor-facing communications. The role also supports event scripting, donor communications, and multichannel marketing initiatives while maintaining messaging frameworks and reusable content assets that strengthen brand consistency across IJM's global functions.

This position is hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays) if located in the Washington, DC area or remote for non-local candidates. It reports to the Global Director, Marketing Communications and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and operationalize global marketing communications strategies aligned to IJM's Brand Platform for major donor events, campaigns, and executive engagement opportunities;
  • Lead content strategies that strengthen brand coherence and drive measurable audience reach, trust, and engagement;
  • Write messaging strategies and content for major donor events, campaign initiatives, executive scripting, donor communications, and organizational storytelling moments;
  • Coordinate messaging across digital, print, presentation, stage, and donor-facing channels to create cohesive audience experiences;
  • Shape stage narratives, speaker messaging, presentations, and donor communications for major donor engagement events;
  • Develop and maintain scalable messaging frameworks, narrative guidance, and reusable content assets that support consistent communications globally;
  • Provide strategic communication counsel, editorial leadership, and coaching to cross-functional teams and contributors;
  • Lead working sessions that strengthen messaging concepts, audience relevance, and communication effectiveness;
  • Foster adoption of brand standards, shared messaging frameworks, and source-of-truth content resources;
  • Promote responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled writing tools, to improve communication effectiveness and efficiency; and
  • Participation in IJM's community of spiritual formation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Nonprofit Management, or a related field;
  • 8-10 years of experience in marketing communications, campaign communications, donor communications, or related fields;
  • Demonstrated experience developing messaging strategies, narrative frameworks, editorial guidance, and reusable content assets for multi-channel communications;
  • Strong background writing and editing high-visibility communications across live events, digital platforms, print materials, and donor engagement channels;
  • Experience translating complex organizational priorities into clear, audience-centered messaging that inspires engagement, trust, and action;
  • Proven ability to develop communications strategies and coordinate integrated marketing communications initiatives;
  • Strong understanding of major and principal donor communications, fundraising messaging, and audience engagement principles;
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, storytelling, and strategic communications;
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders without direct supervisory authority; and
  • Writing portfolio encouraged upon application.

Critical Qualities:

  • Eager commitment to IJM's Core Values: Christian, Professional and Bridge-Building;

  • Global and cultural awareness, with sensitivity to communicating across diverse audiences and contexts;
