Position Profile

Lead our workforce planning and forecasting for the Nursing Resource Team (NRT) and develop staffing plans that support a model of patient-centered care based on best practices and corporate standards, with a focus on optimizing the use of real time data and predictive analytics and professional expertise to continuously improve quality and safety.

At Humber River Hospital, the Clinical Manager of Workforce Planning and Forecasting plays a key role in delivering and supporting patient care for ongoing improvement of patient flows and operational performance.

We are currently seeking an experienced Manager, Clinical Workforce Planning and Forecasting to join our Professional Practice department and provide oversight of our Nursing Resource Team. The ideal candidate has proven clinical management experience, along with exceptional people management skills. This individual must be well-versed workforce planning and analytics, along with relevant experience managing forecasting data.

Salary Range: $122,638.50 - 152,858.55.

Reporting Relationship: Senior Director, Professional Practice

Position Responsibilities:
  • Manage Human Resources (HR)requirements for the Nursing Resource Team (NRT) (e.g. recruitment and retention; leave requests, disciplinary matters) in collaboration with HR
  • Enter payroll data for all nursing resource team staff.
  • Manage the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) in coordination with the Senior Director on all aspects of education/professional development delivery to NRT staff and agency staff.
  • Plan, implement, manage, and evaluate workforce plans and forecasted program staffing requirements in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to build a professional practice.
  • Develop and communicate staffing schedules to meet clinical needs and department/unit objectives; share and adjust short-term and long-term workload and headcount forecasts with clinical leadership teams to meet staffing goals.
  • Analyze staffing trends and adjust forecasts in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to plan, implement, and manage workforce planning and forecasting programs.
  • Develop, implement, and lead a critical care cluster of staff (e.g. Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU)).
  • Manage and negotiate one-time funding opportunities with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) (e.g. Late Career Nurse Initiative, Critical Care Secretariat).
  • Manage the rolling initiative Nursing Graduate Guarantee between HR (recruitment), Program Directors, and Senior Director; produce documentation and reports.
  • Lead Clinical Practice Leaders and newly hired nursing staff through corporate/centralized nursing orientation.


Qualifications:
  • Current registration and membership in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Membership with Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • A minimum of (5) five years of clinical experience in an acute care hospital
  • A minimum of (5) five years management experience with direct people management responsibilities
  • Exceptional analytical and information-seeking skills that contribute to effective decision-making and strategic planning and execution of action plans that deliver results and motivate individuals for greater performance excellence
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of leaders and stakeholders with demonstrated success in moving key stakeholders to positive resolution and to facilitate and coach clinical areas on change initiatives
  • Experience managing in a multi-union environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with workforce planning and forecasting strategies, including recruitment and retention models
  • Track record of delivering exceptional clinical practice, efficiency and patient care
  • Track record for creating a quality and safety culture and means for monitoring and communicating results that is meaningful to team members and inspires continuous improvement
  • Self-directed, courageous, and highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience managing competing demands in a fast-paced, multi-site, multi-disciplinary health care environment
