SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Lead Clinical Operations. Optimize Surgical Access. Drive System-Wide Excellence.

Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is seeking an experienced healthcare operations leader to serve as Manager, Clinical Scheduling - Orthopedics. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing orthopedic and podiatric surgical scheduling operations, surgical block management, and clinical scheduling processes across multiple Penn State Health locations.

Working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, clinic leaders, and perioperative teams, you'll drive scheduling efficiency, optimize operating room utilization, standardize workflows, and enhance the patient and provider experience across the health system.

What You'll Do

  • Lead orthopedic and podiatric surgical block scheduling and clinical scheduling operations across multiple clinic and operating room locations.
  • Oversee clinical scheduling templates, block schedules, and system-wide scheduling processes to maximize operational efficiency and patient access.
  • Partner with orthopedic surgeons, clinic site managers, perioperative leadership, and pre-certification teams to coordinate surgical scheduling and determine the most appropriate operating room location.
  • Optimize multi-site scheduling workflows, resource coordination, operational performance, and scheduling standardization.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, hiring, and staff development for the Orthopedic Surgical Scheduling team.
  • Monitor clinical volumes, operational performance, staffing, and departmental budgets while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, labor agreements, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with operational and clinical leaders to implement process improvements, scheduling enhancements, and department initiatives.
  • Support employee education, operational planning, and strategic recommendations that improve departmental performance and patient access.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of one (1) year management experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years clinical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a matrixed healthcare organization
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing, Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy, Registered Nurse, or Athletic Trainer
  • Prior work in an academic or medical center preferred
  • Project management skills
