Full Job Description
Supervises and manages daily maintenance and repair activities of both internal CE staff and external vendor service providers. Implements cost of service reduction strategies related to technology ownership at assigned McLaren Healthcare Corporation sites. Represents the Clinical Engineering Department in attendance at hospital safety committee meetings, and may participate in planning meetings related to purchase, installation and user training on new equipment acquisitions. Implements CE departmental policies and procedures to ensure the hospital's ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations and regulatory agencies. Identifies and implements programs related to expansion of technical services, both internally and externally.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of clinical engineering maintenance services in accordance with all hospital, system, state, federal and regulatory agency standards.
  2. Ensures quality, financial and customer service objectives are met.
  3. Ensures the attainment of objectives through the selection, development, training and evaluation of staff. Makes hiring and termination decisions in consultation with human resources.
  4. Develops, secures approval of, and administers capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives. Develops and implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances.
  5. Oversees and manages the on-going implementation of the Clinical Engineering Department's Medical Equipment Management Program.
  6. Educates hospital staff regarding safe use and operation of medical equipment, to include identification of equipment malfunctions or inappropriate use which could have a negative impact on the delivery of patient care.


Required:
  • Associate degree in electronics or biomedical engineering, or equivalent military training or equivalent one-year experience in the repair and maintenance of technical equipment.
  • Ten years of experience in a health care system, with at least five years' experience in administrative capacity involved specifically with supervision of technical staff.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or electrical engineering or engineering technology or equivalent technical degree.
  • Certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) or Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM).
  • Two years' experience in networking/troubleshooting.
