Full Job Description
Job Accountability/Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  • Lead the company's PMO function to support various functions and key business needs.
  • Manage the AAR Railinc Committee's annual industry project selection process.
  • Coordinate and prepare materials for governance forums with high quality, accuracy, and attention to detail against strict deadlines.
  • Facilitate internal and external status reporting, including monthly industry project status reports and quarterly data integration matrix updates.
  • Manage relationships with key industry stakeholders and executive sponsors.
  • Work with business operations leadership to prioritize initiatives and ensure successful delivery of related projects.
  • Review business methodologies and document existing processes to identify and drive internal process improvements.
  • Utilize Railinc project management methodologies to ensure effective communication.
  • Work independently to propose work plans and timelines as needed.
  • Engage product managers, product owners, business analysts and other key resources to meet schedule, scope and budget for assigned initiatives.
  • Engage and involve industry representatives as necessary to deliver on initiatives.
  • Examples of business initiatives include (but are not limited to):
    • Business development programs (e.g., Railinc Committee, RailTech Initiative)
    • Product quality programs (e.g., Critical Release Quality Initiative, Surge Projects)
    • Customer product adoption and business process alignment
    • Customer technical integration (e.g., data provision)
    • Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity programs
    • Industry merger support
  • Create project plans (budget, issues list, action items, status reports) and adhere to internal project methodologies.
  • Provide oversight to ensure the projects deliver agreed-to scope within the committed timeframes and budget.
  • Identify project risks / issues and implement effective mitigation strategies for resolution, including reporting and escalation paths.
  • Measure and report project performance and status, identify and control changes.
  • Report project progress to senior management and stakeholders, identifying issues and resolutions.

  • Project portfolio (investment approval)
  • Project success (on-time, on-budget)
  • Value realization (product adoption, integration)
  • Product quality (product surveys, SLAs)


Knowledge, Skills, abilities/minimum requirements/competencies:
  • A high degree of business acumen including ROI analysis
  • Project management capability with a strong understanding of project management concepts
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced cross-functional development environment
  • Understanding of the relationship between business activities, application systems and the corporate technical infrastructure. Ability to determine impact of system and/or infrastructure changes to the business, and vice versa.
  • Self-motivated, team player, able to build collaborative work teams in a matrix environment

Education, experience, certification/training:
  • PMI / PMP certification is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related area of study required
  • Master's Degree in Business or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of information technology, business and project/program management experience and a minimum of 6 years of work experience
  • Previous leadership experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Information technology experience is plus
  • Rail or logistics industry experience is a plus
  • Project management experience in IT infrastructure preferred.
  • Experience with disaster recovery/business continuity program management and conducting tabletops and exercises preferred

Physical Requirements:
  • Sedentary work: Assignment involves sitting at workstation (desk) most of the time (up to 8 hours) with only occasional walking and/or standing.
  • Keyboarding: Primarily using fingers for typing.
  • Talking: Expressing or communicating verbally through use of spoken words (accurately conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to others).
  • Hearing: Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Visual: Through close visual acuity, required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading (with or without correction).
  • Environment: Because the requirements of this position require frequent, often informal collaboration with other Railinc colleagues and external stakeholders, and to maximize the development of the skills and responsibilities essential for this position, Railinc expects that the work required of this role be performed predominantly in the office consistent with Railinc's in-the-office work policies, as communicated by Human Resources and/or Senior Management. Any individual variations on in-the-office work policies will be reviewed by Human Resources on a case-by-case basis. As work is performed predominantly within an office setting, there is no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat, cold, noise, etc.).
