Full Job Description
The API Manager is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and management of the company's API ecosystem. This role involves overseeing the development, maintenance, and documentation of APIs, ensuring they meet the needs of the business. The API Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and external partners, to deliver high-quality API solutions that drive business growth and enhance customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an API strategy that aligns with the company's business and reliability objectives.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and observable APIs.
  • Implement and manage API platforms and tools to ensure visibility, monitoring, and proactive alerting across the API ecosystem.
  • Establish and enforce API governance policies covering versioning, security, performance, and lifecycle management.
  • Define reliability and availability standards (SLIs, SLOs) and drive continuous improvement in uptime and latency.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable API solutions.
  • Create and maintain high-quality API documentation and developer guides.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to internal teams on API reliability, observability, and best practices.
  • Use metrics, tracing, and logging data to analyze API behavior, detect issues, and optimize performance.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging tools and technologies to improve API reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
  • Stay current with trends in API design, observability frameworks, and cloud-native architecture.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in API development and management.
  • Proven experience with API management platforms (e.g., Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, Mulesoft).
  • Experience in designing and implementing RESTful and SOAP APIs.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and frameworks such as .Net, Java, Python, Node.js, or others.
  • Strong understanding of API security, including OAuth, JWT, and other authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience with cloud services and infrastructure (Azure preferred, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Docker, Azure Kubernetes Services).
  • Experience integrating with and maintaining connections with third-party libraries, SDKs, Webhooks, and APIs.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of SDLC methodologies with a focus on Agile and Scrum.
  • Experience writing and running test suites with CI/CD, including test automation, unit test level TDD, and SAST/DAST.
  • Experience building financial solutions such as trading platforms, digital wallets, and payment solutions is a plus.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry, managing the secure transit and storage of sensitive data.
  • Adaptability to work within constraints of existing technology stack, while leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills, both within and across teams.
  • Excellent communications skills.

Pay and Benefits

The typical starting salary range for this position is between $137,815 - $180,000 per year. Coinstar utilizes geographically based pay ranges, within the United States, which allows us to pay competitively and consistently based on location. Within the range for the applicable geographic area, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share the salary range specific to your location. Employees in this position have the potential to increase their base salary up to $206,723per year, which is the max end of the range, based on ongoing demonstrated and continuous performance in the role. Short-Term and Long-Term bonus incentives are a part of the total compensation package and are based on Company and Individual performance.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary work involves remaining in a stationary position most of the time in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse and telephone. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Occasionally move about the work site to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or regularly move objects. Communicate and exchange information with co-workers and other individuals in person and electronically.
