About the Role

As a Maintenance Lead at Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, located in Rochelle, IL, you will play a key role in maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding tube mill production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role focuses on maximizing equipment quality, uptime, rate, and yield and is perfect for someone with strong electrical aptitude, advanced troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do
  • Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment while following all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Inspect guards and safety devices to ensure equipment is safe and operational before returning it to service.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and quality-related issues to minimize downtime and improve performance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical drawings to diagnose equipment issues.
  • Complete breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers to support production goals.
  • Monitor parts, tools, and supply inventory levels and coordinate ordering and receipt verification as needed.
  • Use manual and computerized maintenance management systems to document inspections, repairs, and equipment status.
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and use precision measuring instruments to identify and resolve issues.
  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment when necessary.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable cranes in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in problem-solving efforts.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment by complying with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety by identifying and reporting safety, quality, or operational concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support maintenance and operational needs.


Who You Are
  • 5+ years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance role.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including familiarity with electrical systems and PLCs.
  • Effective communication skills in English with the ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
  • Ability to pass job-related testing, an employment physical, and a drug screening.
  • Strong teamwork skills with a willingness to collaborate and contribute to team success.


Physical Abilities
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, sit, and reach as required to perform job duties.
  • Ability to meet additional physical demands associated with a manufacturing maintenance environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Below is the expected base hourly range for this position. This is a good-faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.

Base Hourly Range:$30.00-$48.00 USD
