Full Job Description
To provide leadership, management, and technical support for all plant engineering and maintenance activities associated with bakery plant operations. Responsibilities include the management of an annual capital plan, the administration of a repair and maintenance system and budget, ensuring environmental compliance, and the training and development of management and non-management personnel within the plant engineering / maintenance department. All the above duties will be done following established GMP, Food Safety, and Personal Safety and Quality policies/procedures. If there are equipment/food safety problems, the Plant Engineer will notify the Plant Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
Ensures a safe working environment for all associates through compliance with BQ safety programs promoted by the Company.
Perform all position responsibilities following established GMP, Food Safety, Personal Safety and Quality policies and procedures.
Develops and implements a focused preventative and predictive maintenance program to ensure reliable operational performance of bakery equipment and processes.
Analyzes and solves technical maintenance issues.
Organizes and implements work assignments efficiently, based on critical equipment priorities and current PM program effectiveness.
Establishes KPIs and reports to monitor the effectiveness of maintenance performance in terms of Downtime, PM Completion, Overtime, Cost of Maintenance, Critical Equipment Analysis, etc. and uses these reports to initiate remedial actions to improve maintenance performance.
Communicates the status of engineering/maintenance activities to Maintenance and Plant Operations personnel.
Develops and implements maintenance procedures, standards and policies to ensure plant compliance with federal, state, and local laws and company policies with regards to personnel safety, food safety and the environment.
Manages activities of outside contractors in the performance of maintenance and project work.
Responsible for training of engineering, maintenance and outside contractor personnel on BQ Safety policies and procedures including Lock-Out / Tag-Out, Confined Space, Hazard Material Handling and Personal Protective Equipment.
Conducts evaluation of current associates' skill levels and develops and maintains a list of training requirements for existing maintenance employees.
Identifies or develops programs, including AIB and vendor-based training programs that will focus on improving the skills of maintenance associates, based on individual needs.
Be part of the food safety (HACCP) team. Assist in maintaining and organizing records in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines.
Prepares, monitors and controls engineering/maintenance departmental budget.
Responsible for MRO budgeting and overall stockroom management.
Responsible for ensuring Company site security
Writes AFEs and develops, executes and controls the plant capital program according to company policies and standards.
Works with project engineers to document and implement training procedures, operating procedures, and maintenance requirements for all new equipment prior to installation
Assists corporate engineering with technical support on major capital projects.
Responsible for researching and implementing innovative technical approaches and methods to improve plant performance and profitability.
Responsible for adequately staffing the plant maintenance department.
Ensures that the Director of Operations or Plant Manager is informed of any and all technical issues that may negatively or positively impact plant operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Business Administration.
5 -10 years or more experience related to predictive / proactive maintenance.
Experience with the administration of a computerized preventive maintenance management system.
Technical computer skills related to administration, equipment and process applications.
Strong leadership, teamwork and communications skills
Worker subject to inside work, protected from weather conditions as well as outside conditions. Worker subjected to temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour that is process related and more extreme in summer months.
Worker subject to noise sufficient to require hearing protection in designated areas.
Worker subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, and moving objects carrying considerable weight and force.
Capable of working in environment of flour dust.
Work requires the ability to read, write and communicate in English in order to understand and follow work and safety instructions. Must be able to perform basic arithmetic to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Must be able to ascend and descend building stairways, ladders and ramps to reach job assignments and perform tasks required in job classification. Specific tasks require standing for long periods, climbing, reaching above shoulders, walking, lifting, grasping, kneeling, bending and twisting.
Must have mental and visual ability to identify various product varieties, read charts of posted manufacturing standards as well as scale weights and equipment controls.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Electro/mechanical, hydraulics and pneumatics system design and troubleshooting knowledge.
Capable of teaching, training and sharing technical knowledge to employees within operations.
Bakery equipment and process knowledge.
Programmable Logic Controller knowledge related to both programming and troubleshooting.
IPM knowledge (or similar statistical process control system)
