Job Title: Machining Launch Tooling Engineer
Location: Sterling Heights, Michigan
Pay Range: $48-50 per hour
Job Type: W2 Contract
Expected Hours per Week: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 06:30 AM to 03:00 PM

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Machining Launch Tooling Engineer to support the successful launch and implementation of machining operations and tooling systems. This position works closely with the headquarters launch team and suppliers to ensure machining lines are delivered successfully while meeting safety, quality, productivity, and long-term business objectives. The engineer will support tooling development, process improvements, quality documentation, launch activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across machining operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support machining processes through tooling development and implementation activities.
  • Support implementation and management of GTSV tool tracking systems.
  • Identify tool-dominant features and establish appropriate process controls.
  • Drive continuous improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing performance.
  • Complete PPAP documentation and quality launch requirements.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to improve manufacturing processes and products.
  • Develop and execute action plans to investigate issues and verify corrective actions.
  • Lead process audits to ensure compliance with Powertrain and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Create process documentation, work instructions, and quality control procedures.
  • Deliver capable tooling and manufacturing processes for gear machining operations.
  • Lead variability reduction, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Support ISO 14001 compliance efforts and internal auditing activities.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of tooling, machining, or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with tooling development, tool design, and machining processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate Ford's ONE FORD leadership behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience in high-volume production machining and tooling manufacturing.
  • Gear machining, gear blade grinding, or related powertrain manufacturing experience.
  • Experience programming tool presetters such as Royal or Zoller systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
  • Experience with FMEA, PPAP, DOE, and process control methodologies.
  • Experience with CNC mills and advanced machining operations.
  • Automotive manufacturing and launch experience preferred.
