Description Under medical direction, to perform a variety of standard magnetic resonance imaging procedures in addition to MRA.

This recruitment is for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologistpositions throughout the Santa Clara County Health System. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used for potential vacancies located at O'Connor Hospital, Regional Medical Center, St. Louise Regional Hospital, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. This may include full time, part time, and extra help/per diem opportunities. If you are interested in these opportunities, please fill out the appropriate questions. O'Connor Hospital- O'Connor Hospital (OCH) is a 358 licensed bed acute care facility offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty programs to residents of Santa Clara County. It was founded in 1889 as one of the first hospitals in the county. OCH has grown significantly over the past five years in both its inpatient volume and its Emergency Department visits. Along with these volume increases other ancillary and clinical departments like imaging, lab, pharmacy, and respiratory have seen growth as well.
St. Louise Regional Hospital- Since 1989, St. Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH) has been caring for the residents in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical specialties. SLRH has 93 beds, is a Designated Primary Stroke Center, and is the only acute care hospital in the area. Located in Gilroy, SLRH maintains a CALSTAR 2 emergency helicopter base on the premises.
Regional Medical Center - Regional Medical Center (RMC) is a 258-bed hospital that is the main emergency healthcare provider for East San José, treating a wide range of critical and life-threatening conditions for more than 60 years. Since the SCVH integration of RMC effective 4/1/25, RMC has expanded the critical services including Level II trauma, Thrombectomy capable Stroke Center and STEMI care, and has been seeing an increased number of emergency visits and inpatient volume.

- Communicates MRI scan information appropriately to physician to determine need for further scanning;
- Properly identifies and processes MRI scan images for review by physician;
- Performs MRA procedures as assigned;
- Administers or assists physician in administering contrast media;
- Performs various quality control activities;
- May coordinate with physicians and patient care areas regarding scheduling and sedation of patients;
- Analyzes safety information in relation to patient to ensure that there are no contraindications to examination;
- Ensures that the MRI area is clean, stocked, and safe for patients, visitors and staff;
- Instructs, prepares and positions patients for MRI scans;
- Troubleshoots, documents, and communicates equipment problems;
- Assists in training student technologists, Radiology residents and Diagnostic Imaging Technologists in MRI technique;
- Performs general radiographic procedures when required;
- Cleans and stocks procedure rooms and ancillary areas, and maintains proper inventory levels;
- Performs routine administrative tasks;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Employment Standards Possession of a State of California certificate to practice as a radiologic technologist.
Demonstrated competence in the performance of standard magnetic resonance technology procedures and trained in and competent to perform MRA.
Sufficient education, training and experience to enable a candidate to demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities listed below.
Knowledge of- Magnetic resonance imaging techniques, methods, and equipment;
- General radiographic techniques, methods, and equipment;
- Magnetic resonance imaging physics, physiology, structural and organic anatomy including cross-sectional anatomy;
- Magnetic Resonance Angiography procedures;
- Methods of positioning patients for radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging procedures;
- Principles of image processing and development applicable to diagnostic imaging;
- Safety principles and procedures relating to diagnostic imaging in general and magnetic resonance imaging in particular;
- Basic computer skills.
Ability to
- Perform general radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging procedures;
- Perform Magnetic Resonance Angiography procedures;
- Perform basic quality control on MRI equipment;
- Ability to recognize anomalies/abnormalities for the purpose of notifying interpreting physician;
- Recognize and take appropriate action related to equipment malfunctions;
- Instruct and position patient for MRI scan and other radiographic procedures;
- Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers and medical staff;
- Provide safe and appropriate care to all patients, even in stressful situations;
- Follow written and oral instructions;
- Use professional resources to remain current in general radiology and magnetic resonance imaging;
- Accurately bill for complex procedures and supplies in a timely fashion;
- Work independently with minimum supervision;
- Work in paid on-call status as needed.
