Job Overview:

The Transmission Associate will support Generation Interconnection projects across North America. This includes reviewing System Impact, Facility Studies, Affected System studies and support interconnection throughout the Interconnection Process. Respond to Deficiencies related to technical modeling such as PSSE, PSCAD, Short Circuit, etc. Run technical studies to support greenfield and development efforts related to renewable projects. Track regulatory developments in assigned markets in order to advise the project team in handling all transmission-related issues and minimizing potential risks for the company.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Work with RTOs/ISOs and utilities to enhance Generation Queue position through the interconnection process
  • Review and analyze interconnection studies and brief Development on costs and next steps
  • Respond to Deficiencies related to technical modeling, PSSE, PSCAD, Short Circuit, etc
  • Run powerflow studies to mimic or dispute interconnection study results
  • Understand timelines, milestones associated with Interconnection process and track upcoming deadlines, payments and milestones for individual projects
  • Work with project developers to ensure each project has adequate support or the access needed to ensure competitiveness
  • Support Market Operations and the rest of the Energy Management team in all transmission-related matters
  • Mitigate transmission risks within EDPR's portfolio
  • Additional duties as required

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Master's degree preferred
  • 3 - 5 years in the utility industry; generation interconnection experience required
  • Knowledge and understanding of PSSE and Power Flow software (Steady State, Dynamic, Short Circuit, Transient stability)
  • Familiarity with programming skills such as Python, Java, SQL, etc
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise required

Behavioral Requirements:
  • Ability to deal with complex issues from a high theoretical level to implementation details (e.g., ability to understand technical standards and how they will eventually impact commercial activity)
  • Ability to work with EDPR's leadership team to align the transmission strategy with the overall corporate strategy
  • Ability to influence others to accommodate EDPR's interests including meetings with high-ranking political figures and public speaking
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project preferred
