Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reports directly to the Terminal Manager and supports operations at the Newark and Salinas terminals.
  • Partners with terminal leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations while maintaining consistent service standards across both locations.
  • Monitors operational performance and implements improvements to enhance productivity, customer service, and profitability.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Travels regularly between Newark and Salinas to support operational and staffing needs.
  • Directly supervises shift leads, dockworkers, drivers, and support personnel.
  • Schedules and assigns tasks for dock planning and setup.
  • Ensures timely pickup and delivery of freight and verifies freight for billing accuracy.
  • Observes the loading of trucks to ensure proper handling and distribution of freight.
  • Interviews candidates and makes recommendations regarding hiring, performance management, corrective actions, and terminations in coordination with the Terminal Manager.
  • Manages a team of leaders and employees to ensure freight is loaded and unloaded efficiently while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Utilizes AS400 to run reports and analyze operational performance, staffing, and equipment utilization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of LTL transportation management experience required. Multi-terminal leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience leading dock, pickup and delivery, linehaul, or terminal operations preferred.
  • Proven leadership, team-building, coaching, and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced transportation environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and support operations across multiple locations.
  • Proven ability to work successfully across the organization to resolve operational and customer service issues.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, safety compliance, and transportation operations.
  • Basic PC proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office products required.
  • Experience with AS400 or similar transportation management systems preferred.
  • Ability to travel regularly between the Newark and Salinas terminals.
