The Logistics Operations Manager is a cross functional leadership role focused on improving processes, supporting departmental leadership, and driving key initiatives across the organization. This person needs a strong logistics and transportation background and the ability to quickly learn how different teams operate.
This is not a traditional Operations Manager role. It spans Operations, Administration, Carrier Management, Claims, Customer Experience, Managed Solutions, and other business functions, turning operational challenges into practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities Operational Improvement - Learn existing workflows before recommending changes, and identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for standardization.
- Develop and implement solutions that improve productivity, service, accuracy, and scalability.
- Help departments establish KPIs, SOPs, and training materials, and follow improvements through to measurable results.
Cross Functional & Project Support - Serve as a flexible resource supporting different departments based on business needs.
- Assist leaders with operational challenges, staffing needs, and special projects, and coordinate initiatives across multiple departments.
- Take ownership of projects assigned by senior leadership.
Logistics & Transportation - Apply transportation experience to evaluate processes, understanding the full shipment lifecycle from customer request through billing and settlement.
- Assist operational teams with escalations and complex issues.
Team & Leadership Development - Build strong working relationships across the organization and work alongside employees to understand how work is actually performed.
- Help managers set clear expectations and accountability, coach emerging leaders, and support teams through growth or change.
Communication & Technology - Communicate clearly with employees at all levels, translating operational issues into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
- Evaluate systems and processes for improvement opportunities, and partner with IT and vendors on technology adoption.
Qualifications Required - 5+ years of progressive experience in logistics, transportation, freight brokerage, or supply chain.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Willingness to work hands on with teams rather than manage from a distance.
Preferred - Experience in freight brokerage or third party logistics, across multiple departments.
- Experience developing SOPs, KPIs, or performance standards.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems, billing, carrier settlements, claims, or compliance.
