Job DescriptionPay Range: $100,000 - $123,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications
The Logistics Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing a variety of transportation strategies for MITER Brands. This role will be responsible for managing 3-5 outbound transportation suppliers, controlling supplier distribution costs and driving customer experience enhancements. Other tasks include tracking/communicating freight costs, negotiating favorable transportation rates, long-term contracts and providing market intelligence.
Responsibilities Transportation Strategy
- Develop and execute regional transportation strategies
- Support the optimization of network design (routing, consolidation, equipment, people)
- Lead decisions for private fleet, dedicated fleet, one-way fleet and brokerage solutions
- Work with finance to complete equipment cash flow analysis (lease vs own comparison)
Carrier Management
- Own carrier sourcing, contracting, and performance management
- Negotiate freight rates, fuel programs, equipment maintenance programs
- Manage, track and report asset utilization, and unit scan-off %
Cost Management
- Support the distribution budget and forecast
- Drive year-over-year freight productivity improvements
- Identify and execute cost-reduction opportunities through routing optimization, consolidation, and contract renegotiations
- Partner with Finance to ensure freight accuracy, visibility, and alignment
Operational Execution
- Ensure reliable execution of inbound, interplant, and outbound transportation supporting manufacturing and customer commitments
- Lead escalation management for service disruptions, capacity shortages, and identify high-risk lanes
- Identify opportunities to improve the customer delivery experience
Metrics
- Establish standard enterprise KPIs and create a dashboard to track supplier performance
- Drive standardization of processes, carrier scorecards, and site practices (internal vs external responsibilities)
Digital Enablement
- Improve freight visibility, shipment tracking, and data quality
- Partner with IT to create analytical tools
Compliance
- Support freight claims, loss prevention, and insurance coordination
- Communicate contingency planning for weather, capacity disruptions, and peak demand
Leadership
- Support site Distribution Managers (without direct report structure)
- Partner with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Distribution, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to align freight strategy with operating plans
- Support S&OP and capacity planning to ensure carriers are aware of demand changes
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required; M.S. preferred
- CPM, CPIM or CSCP certification preferred
- Minimum of 4 years' sourcing or transportation experience working for a major, large dollar operation
