About the Job

Locum Nurse Practitioner - Inpatient Psychiatry

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 20-22 shifts per month.
  • Monday-Friday with one weekend per month.
  • Day call: 1:3 (8:00 AM-5:00 PM).
  • Night call: 1:4 (5:00 PM-8:00 AM).
  • One weekend call per month.


Practice Setting:

  • Inpatient Behavioral Health.
  • Adult and adolescent patients (ages 8+).
  • 36-bed behavioral health unit.
  • EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic).
  • Collaborative team of psychiatrists, APPs, nurses, social workers, and behavioral health staff.


Patient Volume:

  • Average of 10-15 patients per day.
  • Hospital census averages 18 patients.
  • Typical inpatient stay: 3-5 days.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform psychiatric evaluations, admissions, physical exams, and daily rounds.
  • Diagnose and treat behavioral health conditions.
  • Prescribe medications and manage ongoing psychiatric care.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies.
  • Coordinate care with supervising psychiatrists and multidisciplinary team.
  • Complete referrals, documentation, and administrative duties.
  • Provide addiction education and management.

  • Psychotic disorders.
  • Anxiety disorders.
  • Substance use disorders.
  • Personality disorders.
  • Dementia and cognitive disorders.
  • Adjustment disorders.
  • Childhood and adolescent psychiatric disorders.
  • Somatoform disorders.


Requirements:

  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner.
  • Active Iowa license required.
  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric experience preferred.
  • No new graduates.
  • Ability to start as soon as credentialed.


Credentialing:

  • Approximately 30-90 days.
