The St. Petersburg, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP has an opportunity for an associate to join its Litigation & Disputes service line. Ideal candidates will have up to six years of litigation experience. The successful candidate will have a strong academic record, and excellent analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
We are looking for candidates who have a passion for litigation and who take a proactive approach and ownership of their work. Candidates must have a strong commitment to client service and want to develop and grow their litigation skills by working alongside exceptional attorneys.

Where You'll WorkThis is an in-person position in the St. Petersburg, Florida, office with occasional flexibility to work remotely (1-2 days per week).
What You'll Do- Manage and support a diverse commercial litigation caseload
- Research complex legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and legal memoranda
- Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
- Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and courts
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues and develop litigation strategies
- Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements
What We're Looking For- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar (or awaiting July FL Bar exam results)
- Between 1-6 years of litigation experience; 2026 law school graduates who have taken the 2026 Florida Bar exam will also be considered
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines
- Comfortable handling depositions and court appearances commensurate with experience
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal rules of procedure
- Ability to work with a variety of attorneys and staff, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
Physical Requirements- Sitting frequently, approximately six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Standing or walking frequently, up to six hours per day.
- Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to one hour per day.
- Bending and stooping occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
