Cozen O'Connor seeks an associate with 2 to 5 years of litigation experience to join the firm's Boston office. The ideal candidate will have experience handling complex civil litigation matters involving business and commercial disputes, catastrophic injury claims, transportation litigation, premises liability, products liability, construction litigation, and general liability matters.
Responsibilities - Assist with all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and discovery responses.
- Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses on complex legal issues.
- Participate in fact and expert discovery, including preparing for and attending depositions.
- Assist with the preparation and defense of depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- Appear in state and federal courts under attorney supervision.
- Work on matters involving:
- Business and commercial litigation
- Catastrophic injury claims
- Transportation and trucking litigation
- General liability matters
- Products liability litigation
- Construction defect and construction injury claims
- Premises liability matters
- Professional liability defense
- Analyze contractual indemnity, additional insured, and risk transfer issues.
- Assist clients with risk mitigation strategies and litigation management.
- Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices on sophisticated litigation matters.
Qualifications - J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
- Admission to the Massachusetts Bar or eligibility for prompt admission.
- 2 to 5 years of litigation experience.
- Experience handling civil litigation matters in state and/or federal court.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Experience drafting motions, discovery, and other substantive litigation filings.
- Deposition and courtroom experience preferred.
- Interest in business litigation, transportation, construction, casualty, and complex liability matters.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and case management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
The salary range for this role is $195,000 - $210,000 and represents the Firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and location.
