Linux Kernel and Containerization Subject Matter Expert (SME)

In this role the Linux Kernel and Containerization Subject Matter Expert (SME) will work with a diverse team to monitor, update, and support THAAD Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL), Digital and simulation labs.
Responsibilities
Strong background in containerization, Linux, Kernels, software development and security.
Knowledge with a configuration management focus is a plus.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Possess excellent communication skills both oral and written; exhibit the ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, customer focused work environment.
Kernel & OS Engineering: Serve as the SME for Linux kernel customization. Install, configure, and maintain system hardware/software across RHEL 7-10 environments.
Infrastructure Management: Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, resilient container infrastructures and Cloud Development Environments (CDE).
Administer container orchestration clusters within strict air-gapped/classified environments requiring Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Automate Operating System builds and support the full lifecycle management of containerized applications.
Work directly with existing codebases, contribute improvements, and adapt solutions to overcome constraints within legacy systems.
Expert knowledge in container technologies.
Demonstrated ability to design and maintain scalable, resilient container infrastructure.
Proficiency in one or more programming languages
Provide troubleshooting support for hardware and software
Manage user accounts on classified systems using multi-factor authentication.
Oversee the implementation of container solutions within a Linux operating system
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent relevant experience may be substituted for formal education.
6+ years of professional experience supporting Linux-based systems, software engineering, systems administration, or related technical environments.
Active Linux+ and Security+ certifications are required.
Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) versions 7 through 10, including operating system automation and Linux kernel customization.
Demonstrated expertise with Linux kernel architecture, customization, and administration.
Extensive experience with container technologies such as Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or similar platforms.
Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, resilient container infrastructures.
Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as C, C++, Python, Bash, or Go.
Experience automating operating system builds, deployments, and configuration management processes.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within Linux operating systems and enterprise infrastructure.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while managing multiple priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience supporting classified or air-gapped computing environments is highly desirable.
Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar technologies is preferred.
Travel of up to 20% is required for this position.
U.S. Citizenship with Active Secret Security clearance and ability to maintain the designated security clearance level is required.
Physical Description
Employees in these positions will function in a general office/cubicle setting environment, and laboratory/testing setting using standard office equipment and various electronic testing equipment, including a computer, telephone, printers, video equipment, computer software and testing equipment. Will interact in a general office setting environment with various personnel; participate in meetings and contribute to team success; deliver timely results and produce reports; receive and communicate information; may include telework. May function in a specialized laboratory/testing environment using electronic testing equipment, computer software and complex systems. May move and test equipment of various weights. Laboratory environment may require use of protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety glasses and protective hearing and footwear. May be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization due to business demands; travel occasionally for assigned work.
