Senior Life Insurance Underwriter Auditor / Re-Underwriter

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Life Insurance Underwriter Auditor / Re-Underwriter to conduct quality assurance reviews and re-underwriting audits across a portfolio of individual life insurance policies. This role is responsible for evaluating underwriting decisions, assessing adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk philosophy, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement, and supporting strategic initiatives across targeted segments of business.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled life insurance underwriter with strong analytical abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and a deep understanding of mortality risk assessment. This position offers the flexibility of remote work and a collaborative environment focused on underwriting excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive audits and re-underwriting reviews of individual life insurance policies.
  • Evaluate underwriting decisions for consistency, accuracy, quality, and adherence to company guidelines, risk philosophy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess medical, financial, occupational, and avocational risk factors to determine appropriateness of underwriting outcomes.
  • Identify underwriting trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Document audit findings clearly and provide actionable recommendations to underwriting leadership.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives and special projects involving specific segments of the book of business.
  • Partner with underwriting management to develop and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Analyze underwriting data and results to measure performance and identify emerging risks.
  • Maintain current knowledge of underwriting guidelines, mortality assessment tools, and industry best practices.
  • Quickly learn and apply new underwriting systems, workflows, philosophies, and procedures.
  • Participate in calibration exercises to promote consistent underwriting practices.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of direct individual life insurance underwriting experience with a life insurance carrier.
  • Demonstrated history of underwriting performance and quality results.
  • Advanced knowledge of life insurance risk selection and mortality assessment.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to document underwriting rationale thoroughly and clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Proficiency with underwriting systems and technology platforms.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting underwriting audits, quality assurance reviews, or re-underwriting assessments.
  • Familiarity with the Swiss Re Underwriting Manual.
  • Experience using MRAS underwriting rules and Workbench.
  • Knowledge of accelerated underwriting and automated underwriting programs.
  • Experience reviewing large face amount cases and complex underwriting decisions.
  • Prior participation in underwriting governance, quality control, or risk management initiatives.
