Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive eye care including diagnosis and management of visual and ocular pathologies
  • Prescribe corrective lenses, vision training, and therapeutic medications
  • Deliver emergency eye care for trauma and acute conditions
  • Utilize lab and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmologic conditions
  • Coordinate eye care with other physicians when systemic disease is present
  • Refer and coordinate care for patients requiring services outside the Service Unit
  • Consult with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical staff for complex cases
  • Supervise Eye Clinic personnel and precept optometry students as needed

Full Job Description
Job Title: Licensed Optometrist
Location: Kayenta Health Center - Kayenta Service Unit, Navajo Area Indian Health Service
Hours: Mon-Fri, excluding Federal Holidays (Tour of duty set by Supervisor; 40 hrs/week)

Key Duties:
  • Provide comprehensive eye care including diagnosis and management of visual and ocular pathologies.

  • Deliver emergency eye care for trauma and acute conditions.
  • Utilize lab and radiology services to evaluate ophthalmologic conditions.
  • Coordinate eye care with other physicians when systemic disease is present.
  • Refer and coordinate care for patients requiring services outside the Service Unit.
  • Consult with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and medical staff for complex cases.
