Responsibilities

Full Job Description
Position Summary:
The Liability Claim Manager is responsible for efficiently managing and overseeing the entire process of handling liability claims within the organization. This includes investigating claims, determining liability, negotiating settlements, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies. The incumbent will work closely with internal departments, external legal counsel, insurance adjusters, and claimants to achieve timely and cost-effective resolution of claims while minimizing financial exposure and reputational risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Claim Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations into liability claims, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing relevant documentation to determine the validity and extent of liability.
  • Liability Assessment: Evaluate the merits of each claim, assess liability exposure, and collaborate with legal counsel and insurance providers to develop appropriate strategies for resolution.
  • Negotiation and Settlement: Engage in negotiations with claimants, their legal representatives, and insurance adjusters to achieve fair and reasonable settlements in accordance with company policies and legal standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of claim activities, correspondence, and settlements. Prepare comprehensive reports for management, legal counsel, and insurance providers as required.
  • Compliance and Legal Requirements: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing liability claims management. Stay informed about legal developments and emerging trends in the field.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential areas of risk and implement proactive measures to minimize exposure to liability claims. Recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies based on claim trends and analysis.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster positive relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and claimants to facilitate effective communication and resolution of claims. Provide guidance and support to colleagues involved in the claims process as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, Legal Studies, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCU, ARM, AIC) preferred.
  • Several years of experience in liability claims management or a related field, preferably in a corporate or insurance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of liability law, insurance principles, and claims handling practices.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, including claims management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Our interview process:

Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview. This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role and expected to be 30 minutes in length.
  • Phase 3: Top candidates will be invited to participate in a team and experiential interview process. This stage includes an experiential exercise that will be provided in advance, followed by a 1-hour interview with the Hiring Manager and SVP of Claims. Candidates will also meet with additional members of the Claims team. The entire interview series is expected to take approximately 2 hours.
  • Phase 4: Final candidates will receive an invite to our final interview with a member of our senior leadership team, expected to be 30 minutes in length.

  • Annual salary estimated between $100,000-$120,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the above range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant's skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
