  • Prepare and file required reports, liaising with third-party agencies and attending regulatory audits.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to provide support for various business functions as needed.

Legal Associate, Corporate Governance & Compliance - 5 - 7 years (Mississauga, Ontario)

We are looking for an experienced Legal Associate with a strong background in Canadian corporate governance and legal operations. The position is based in Mississauga and reports to the Head of Legal, Canada.

As a member of the legal team, you will have the opportunity to provide legal services on a variety of issues pertaining to all business units of JTI Canada including our Global Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Corporate Affairs & Communications, People & Culture as well as Finance and IT. Your primary focuswill be corporate governance, contracts review and administration and compliance matters pertaining to our industry reporting obligations in Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the legal team in:
    • Managing corporate duties for all Canadian corporate entities.
    • Reviewing intercompany agreements and obtaining signatures from Directors of corporate entities on necessary resolutions.
    • Analyzing legal risks in a wide range of matters related to commercial, regulatory and compliance law.
    • Proactively monitoring and analyzing new regulatory reporting requirements.
    • Developing and presenting concise summaries, actionable recommendations and training to relevant business stakeholders to meet reporting obligations.
    • Preparing and filing required reports, including through liaising with third party agencies, preparing and attending regulators' audits - addressing follow ups.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the legal team and provide legal support to matters and/or JTI business functions as determined by the line manager from time to time.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in law, legal administration, corporate governance or a related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in an in-house legal department, law firm, corporate services environment or other role involving corporate governance and legal operations. Familiarity with both federal and provincial corporate governance filings is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills, including regulatory compliance and reporting obligations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent decision-making and self-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.


Compensation Package:

$90,000.00 - $100,000.00 CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility. The above reflects the target compensation range for the position at the time of posting. Hiring compensation will be determined based on experience, skill set, education and training, and other organizational needs.
