Hiring range: $74,214 to $103,896 annually ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour). Starting rate will depend on experience, education, and qualifications. Advancement opportunities exist for individuals motivated to move up within Anoka County.

Position Description

The Anoka County Human Resources Department provides a full spectrum of talent management services including but not limited to classification, compensation and benefits, recruitment and selection, employee relations, labor relations, performance management, and organizational development.

We are looking for a Leave of Absence Administrator to join our Benefit Solutions and Leave Coordination team. A successful candidate will play a role in coordinating and administering the benefit and leave programs at the county, which includes employee communication, working with third-party vendors, and maintaining sensitive information. They will work closely with the entire HR department to support the overall operations of the department and the organization.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of August 31st, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Pay & Benefits
  • Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 34: $74,214 to $103,896 ($35.68 to $49.95 per hour).

Work Location
  • This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka MN 55303
  • This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
  • Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review employee leaves requests and assess eligibility criteria based on submitted documentation from employees and medical providers.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short- and long-term disability benefits.
  • Administer leave programs in compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Minnesota Paid Leave.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the leaves case and coordinate related processes such as return-to-work, disability, accommodation, retirement, or separation, as applicable.
  • Maintain consistent communication with employees on leave to ensure timely processing of changes and serve as a liaison between employees and departments.
  • Document, track, and maintain accurate case information using designated case-management systems and software.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees seeking information or support regarding leave programs and related benefits.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and administrators to review status changes and comply with regulatory and procedural requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees seeking information on employee and retiree benefits.
  • Support the county's annual open enrollment to ensure timely and complete participation.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance employee satisfaction and strengthen communication to the organization.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, and may act as a lead providing daily work direction and managing timeline of weekly activities depending on assignment.


Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, or a closely related field.
  • Six years or more (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience in leaves administration or a closely related field.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
  • Experience in public-sector leaves administration
  • Experience with AbsenceSoft leave management system
  • Experience with Workday HRIS
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion


Physical Demands and Work Conditions
  • Standard office environment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
  • Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work
  • Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment
  • Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
