WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORThe Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking a skilled and collaborative Leave Management Specialist (Administrative Specialist II) to join the Leave Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and adjudicating employee medical leave requests, managing cases from intake through closure, and helping employees and supervisors understand their rights and responsibilities under applicable leave laws and County policies. What You'll Be DoingWhen a County employee faces a serious health event or a significant life circumstance, the Leave Management Specialist is often the first person who helps them understand their options and navigate a complex process with confidence. This is meaningful, people-centered work - and it requires someone who brings both rigorous attention to regulatory detail and genuine care for the employees they serve.
Major duties include but are not limited to:- Evaluate employee requests for eligibility and entitlement under FMLA, PWFA, and applicable state and County leave laws.
- Adjudicate requests for intermittent and reduced-schedule leave and monitor active cases through return to work.
- Manage case records in the leave management system from intake through closure, maintaining complete and accurate documentation.
- Coordinate with HR and Payroll teams to ensure proper application of leave pay and benefit continuation.
- Issue notices to employees at key case milestones and respond to records requests and audit inquiries.
- Develop and deliver group training sessions for employees and supervisors on leave rights, responsibilities, and processes.
- Provide clear, accurate, and empathetic guidance to individuals navigating the leave process.
- Create job aids, quick-reference guides, and other self-service resources to support leave program education across the organization.
- Stay current on changes to federal and state leave law and share updates with the team.
- Identify process gaps and contribute to the development of SOPs and procedural improvements within the unit.
Minimum QualificationsExperience: Two (2) years of professional administrative experience related to Leave Management or closely related field.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree.
Equivalency:- EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for year basis.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences - SHRM-CP, PHR, or comparable HR certification; or a leave management certification (e.g., CLMS).
- Prior experience in a public sector or government HR setting.
- Familiarity with HRIS or leave management systems.
- Experience creating or delivering HR training content to employee or supervisor audiences.

Leave BenefitsOur generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year.
