This Opportunity

WSP is looking for a Lead Water Resources Engineer to join our dynamic team in Tampa, Florida.

Are you a water resources engineer who enjoys leading engineering design? Are you looking for an opportunity to work with an international company, with an established team of professionals? We have an excellent opportunity for a project management engineer focused on technical problems. In this position, you will design and analyze engineering projects, manage tasks, and develop new business opportunities. Much of the work will be within Florida and focused on natural systems restoration, stormwater treatment, stream restoration, and resiliency focused projects.

Work on cutting-edge resilience and natural systems design projects such as Vulnerability assessments and Stream Restoration Projects with major clients within the Tampa Bay Region

Your Impact
  • Support business development activities such as client engagement, opportunity identification, team formation, proposal preparation, presentation, and project execution.
  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the civil engineering discipline and function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.
  • Perform engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, standby plans and engineering contracts, integrated management plans, and periodic construction inspections, to ensure that they comply with applicable state and/or federal regulations and sound engineering practice and standards.
  • Lead civil engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and when it needs to be completed, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Identify and assess actual and potential problem areas in design quality implementation/adherence and support efforts to encourage continuous improvement in the quality process.
  • Mentor Project Managers and Staff Engineers.
  • Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics - and accountable for planning, development, and management of projects in compliance with all applicable City/State/Federal codes and regulations, and in accordance with all acceptable engineering practices.
  • Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide "trusted advisor" service and future ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Mentor a team of early and mid-career engineers and scientists
  • Coordinates and participates in contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors and drafts complex professional service agreements and addenda for review by senior management.
  • Deliver quality products to clients on schedule
  • Conduct both field and office tasks associated with water-resources projects
  • Guide CAD Modeling, GIS and other relevant software technology
  • Prepare calculations, design and make recommendations for water-resources projects
  • Author construction bid documents, technical documents, permit applications, and proposals
  • Must be able to manage and lead projects in a team environment
  • Must be able to market clients and prepare proposals
  • Commit to our safety program


Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in environmental, agricultural, or civil engineering
  • 7-10+ years of post-baccalaureate experience in engineering
  • Experience in a consulting practice
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Florida; or registered Professional Engineer in a different state, with the ability to obtain Florida registration within three months of employment
  • Project manager experience
  • Skilled communicator (oral and written) of technical information
  • Travel, as necessary; primarily within Florida
  • The position will be in the Tampa, FL office.
  • Proficiency in using the Suite of MS Office products
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate with clients, prepare reports and proposals.
  • Safe driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
  • Drug Screen required for this position


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree or degrees in engineering
  • Knowledge of Florida hydrology and Florida water-resources issues
  • Client relationships and project experience in Florida
  • Relationships with Florida's water management districts
  • Experience with the following water models a plus: ICPR/ StreamWise, HEC RAS, SWMM
