Lead RCP - Full Time

Shift: 5:30pm - 6:00am, (3) 12 hour shifts

Job Description:

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Respiratory Services and in consultation with the Medical Director, the Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner coordinates patient care assignments and staffing on a shift to shift basis. Ensures adequate staffing and appropriate patient care assignments to allow and ensure accurate and timely assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Assumes preceptor responsibilities for staff and students. Assists with clinical-based research projects that are related to defining appropriateness and efficiency of Respiratory Care delivered.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) to five (5) years previous experience as shift lead or department leadership role preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have and maintain current licensure as an RCP in the state of California. Must have and maintain current BLS certification or obtain within orientation process, prior to hands-on patient care. Must have and maintain ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification or obtain within six (6) months of assignment to department. Six (6) month time frame is at the discretion of the Department Director.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
*Indicates Essential Function

1 * Develops and implements patient care assignments for each respective shift prior to the change of shift report. Ensures that all patients and care areas are assigned to an RCP.
2 * Ensures that the respiratory care census is updated during the shift and that the census update is completed at least four (4) hours before the end of the respective shift.
3 * Assists the Director with the maintenance and modification of the work schedule.
4 * Ensures and encourages fellow practitioners to strengthen therapeutic knowledge and clinical skills, and commitment to professional growth.
5 * Delivers direct and individualized patient care for diagnostic testing appropriate to the ages of the patients served. The age groups of the patients served are Neo-Natal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
6 Responsible to oversee the Cardiopulmonary Services department in the absence of the Manager and Director.
7 * Documents, as necessary, any variations that may occur within established routines and resolves pertinent issues through the department's performance improvement program.
8 * Documentation reflects compliance with established hospital polices and procedures.
