We have an excellent career opportunity for a Lead R&D Engr/Scientist - Digital Solutions to join Honeywell UOP's Development organization. In support of UOP's digital solutions strategy, this role will lead the development of process performance data analytics and connected solutions. These digital tools will be used to advise and optimize the commercial operations and profitability of UOP's portfolio of technologies deployed at customer operating sites. The Lead R&D Eng/Scientist will coordinate technical strategy with business colleagues and lead cross-functional teams to deliver applications that provide significant value for our customers.

You will report directly to our Director of Digital Development, and you'll work out of our Des Plaines, IL, location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Hybrid Work Schedule Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead technology development programs to deliver digital data analytics and process optimization tools for UOP's portfolio of process technologies, following HON UOP NPI work process
  • Effectively coordinate cross-functional technology development teams, including specialists from R&D, Technical Service, and Business.
  • Create technical strategy with Business to establish and prioritize technical definition and content of the solutions to maximize customer value.
  • Identify new approaches in data science, capabilities, and tools for use by UOP internal Specialists and new product development
  • Recognize and implement improved work processes, tools, and infrastructure for digital solution development.
  • Mentoring and coaching engineers in supporting development of data analytics
  • Interaction with customers to identify and understand their needs, and to present your proposed/developed solutions


Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering (Chemical preferred) or mathematics
  • 5+ years of experience in the refining, petrochemicals, and or/gas processing applications
  • 2+ years of Python programming experience or demonstrated coding aptitude

WE VALUE
  • PhD or Advanced Degree.
  • Prior experience in designing, operating, and/or servicing UOP licensed process units.
  • Experience with multivariate statistics; experimental design; equation-based modeling and/or data analytics including cleansing, manipulating, filtering and selection; parameter estimation, and numerical methods
  • Skills in machine learning, data science tools, optimization techniques and algorithms
  • Python programming experience including pandas & NumPy packages or equivalent software development including object-oriented programming methods and cloud-based services
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills and the capability to lead projects effectively across multiple functional departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure solution definition and clear project requirements.
  • Strong business acumen
  • Strong interest in R&D work, self-starting and demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Process Modeling experience with commercial software (UniSim, Hysys, Aspen+, Pro/II, etc.)
  • Prior kinetic modeling / yield estimating experience for UOP process units

The annual base salary range for this position is $142K - $177K . Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations
