Full Job Description
Lead Product Design Engineer

Tommy's is looking for an experienced, highly organized Lead Product Design Engineer with a proven background in CAD, project management, prototyping, and research and development. You'll lead a team of Product Design Engineers, setting technical direction, mentoring, and owning quality while guiding products from sketch to launch.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Creates a detailed design of the product, including any necessary drawings or schematics, using computer aided design (CAD) software
  • Meeting with other engineers to discuss designs and brainstorm possible solutions to problems
  • Provide engineering guidance to fellow team members to keep projects moving forward
  • Lead product category by providing ideas for innovation, directing projects, and overseeing category engineers including staffing needs and periodical evaluations
  • Ensures that all safety standards are met during the design process
  • Works with suppliers to ensure that all materials used in the design meet industry standards
  • Identifying potential design flaws of their own and the team's designs, providing solutions to improve the design
  • Conducting research on new technologies that may impact the design of the product
  • Develop computer models to test designs before they are built
  • Building prototypes and testing apparatuses to prove out designs
  • Develop data driven results to evaluate a project or design
  • Maintaining records of all design decisions made during the process
  • Works collaboratively with the designers and engineers to ensure that projects are completed on time
  • Supporting a project/design from concept phase through launch, and beyond
  • Meeting with stakeholders to asses feedback on existing or future project ideas and direction

Position Qualifications & Candidate Attributes:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred
  • Skilled in research and development, design management, problem solving, project management, and product design
  • Experienced in plumbing, pumping, and filtration systems
  • Experienced in CAD and SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault
  • Technical savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office; experience within database systems a plus
  • Creative, innovative and strong collaborator with ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with stakeholders
  • Self-motivated individual that embodies a "fail fast" engineering mentality to exopodite projects and findings
  • Experience bringing products to market in a fast-paced environment

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This job operates in a professional office environment. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and operates primarily indoors with limited to no travel expectation.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, team member must be able to:
  • Work and commute in all weather conditions
  • Able to effectively communicate, listen, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself and exchange information
  • Able to walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, climb steps, reach with hands, use hands to fingers
  • Work in a fast-paced environment where they will often be multitasking
  • Move about inside the office to access standard office equipment
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as keyboard, copy machine and printer
  • Remain in a stationary position 50%+ of the time, alternating between sitting and standing
  • Ability to move and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Drive between company locations and/or vendors or suppliers as needed while on job
