Full Job Description
Hoag Health, the top-ranked health system in Orange County, CA is seeking a skilled and dedicated Lead Physician Assistant in General Surgery to join our growing team! We are seeking research- and mission-oriented Physician Assistants dedicated to patient care. This is a fulltime role providing inpatient coverage for acute care at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA and Hoag Hospital in Irvine, CA.

The Lead APP role is a pivotal role in establishing the culture and commitment to the highest levels of care at Hoag. The Lead APP role will be responsible for role optimization, orientation of new employees, staffing, day-to day clinical scheduling and coordination, and for acting as the liaison to the APP Physician Supervisors. The role will report directly to the Chief of General Surgery. This individual will require significant cross functional leadership to coordinate the activities of the APP' with exposure to both clinical and administrative duties.

Details:
  • Schedule: Fulltime, Monday - Friday, including weekends on a rotating basis
  • Hours: 40 hours/week. Approximately 36-38 hours of clinical care/week and 2-4 hours for administrative/leadership duties/week
  • Setting: Inpatient (Hospital based)
  • Location: Newport Beach, CA and Irvine, CA
  • Team: General Surgeons, HPB Surgeons, GI Physicians and other specialists within Hoag Health. Hoag also employs several General Surgery Physician Assistants
  • Duties: Patient rounds, collaboration and communication with provider on service as well as nursing staff to perform patient care, set up follow up for patients upon discharge or post operatively, managing acute care needs in the hospital setting
  • EMR: Epic

Requirements:
  • Completion of a Physician Assistant program from an ACGME accredited program in surgery is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a General Surgery Physician Assistant highly preferred
  • Must have or be eligible for California State Physician Assistant licensure
  • Well versed in the surgical and medical management of general surgery procedures and conditions
  • Proven history of leadership or acting as a Lead APP is highly preferred
  • A passion for providing excellent clinical care. Strong communication skills and interest in working in a collaborative / team-oriented environment are a must.
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital privileges at Hoag Hospital
