Full Job Description
Workplace Type: Onsite

Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation - we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine's life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location fosters a close-knit "camp" community where safety and teamwork come first. Working at Red Chris offers an adventurous career at the frontier of mining innovation, with the opportunity to shape a major expansion while enjoying the natural beauty of northern Canada. Our team values strong partnerships with local First Nations and is committed to operating in a safe, inclusive and environmentally responsible way.

About the Project

Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.

Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving-an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada's most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

Newmont is committed to working in partnership with the Tahltan Nation and local communities, ensuring the project delivers lasting environmental, social, and economic benefits while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.

Your Impact

Reporting to the Director, People Business Partner, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the People strategy that supports the successful delivery of the Red Chris Block Cave Project.

You will serve as a trusted advisor to project and operational leaders, providing strategic guidance on industrial and employee relations matters, workforce risks, performance management and disciplinary processes, and organizational change initiatives. Your leadership will help maintain a productive, respectful, and compliant work environment while supporting one of Canada's most significant underground mining developments.

As Red Chris transitions from open pit operations to underground block caving, you will play a key role in building strong relationships with leaders, employees, contractors, and key stakeholders, helping the organization navigate workforce challenges, support operational readiness, and foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and operational excellence.

As a Part of Our Team, You Will

  • Lead People activities supporting project and operational teams across the Red Chris Block Cave Project.
  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders on employee and industrial relations matters, performance management and disciplinary processes, and workforce risk management.
  • Lead and support workplace investigations while ensuring consistent and fair application of company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Manage workplace risks and develop proactive strategies that promote positive employee and industrial relations outcomes.
  • Partner with project leadership to anticipate and address workforce challenges associated with the transition to underground block caving.
  • Support resource planning, talent acquisition processes and programs, and workforce analysis activities to support project and operational requirements.
  • Advise leaders on organizational change initiatives, workforce transitions, and People-related risks and opportunities.
  • Deliver and execute enterprise People programs, including Working Together at Newmont, our Value Story, employee listening and engagement initiatives.
  • Work with the project People team to foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

  • Strong understanding of labour market dynamics, workforce planning, recruitment strategies, succession planning, and talent management in remote and resource-based industries.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior leaders and project stakeholders on complex people, labour relations, and organizational effectiveness matters while balancing business, legal, and reputational risks.
