Hiring Range:$32.87 - $59.17

Coordinates the work of others as assigned in a medical laboratory section. Works with considerable independence to perform and interpret various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Is expert in the use of all equipment and procedures for an assigned area.
Major Responsibilities:- Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory and makes recommendation to Manager.
- Evaluates new hires performance and conducts performance reviews on employees assigned.
- Schedules employees for various lab benches and shifts; reviews all work performed in area to ensure completeness and quality and takes corrective action as necessary.
- Discusses performance issues with employees and recommends disciplinary action to Manager.
- Follows established protocols to perform an all kinds of tests, including the most complex for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I's and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of highly complex or unusual test results.
- Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
- Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
- Develops new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
- Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
- Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
- May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
- Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
- Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
- Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.
Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:
Required: - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Preferred:- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist.
Experience/Skills:
Required:- Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
