About the roleAs Lead Internal Communications Manager, you'll serve as a senior strategist and thought leader on internal communications. You'll own the development and execution of high-impact strategies that span internal communications, employer brand, and executive messaging, driving alignment across the organization and shaping how Thumbtack's story is told.
This is a high-visibility role that requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution. You'll independently lead multi-year communications initiatives, manage complex stakeholder relationships end-to-end, and serve as a trusted partner to senior leaders and cross-functional teams, influencing decisions at the highest levels of the organization.
What you'll do- Develop and execute global internal communications strategies that connect business priorities to clear, consistent messaging across teams and audiences.
- Drive long-term, high-impact communications initiatives from strategy through execution, establishing communications frameworks and best practices that improve consistency, effectiveness, and organizational alignment.
- Advise senior leaders on communications strategy, shaping executive messaging and employee narratives through high-stakes, high-visibility, and sensitive business moments.
- Establish success metrics for communications programs, evaluate effectiveness, and use insights to continuously improve communications strategy and employee engagement.
- Shape executive and enterprise communications, including all-hands presentations, AMA materials, leadership updates, and company announcements, ensuring every communication aligns with business priorities, audience needs, and Thumbtack's narrative.
- Influence cross-functional partners at all levels, driving strategic alignment and advancing key initiatives in partnership with leaders across Brand & Communications, Marketing, People, Engineering, Product, and other business functions.
- Leverage AI to accelerate research, drafting, synthesis, and iteration while applying exceptional editorial judgment to ensure quality, accuracy, and audience fit.
In order to be successful, you must bring- 8+ years of experience in internal or executive communications.
- A proven track record of independently leading enterprise communications strategies that shape business priorities, influence executive stakeholders, and drive measurable organizational impact.
- Success leading communications for company-wide moments such as all-hands meetings, AMAs, executive announcements, reorganizations, and culture initiatives.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex business topics into clear, compelling narratives that inform, inspire, and align diverse audiences.
- Strong executive presence with a demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on messaging, narrative development, organizational change, and employee communications strategy.
- Ability to establish scalable communications programs, operating models, and best practices, using data-driven insights and measurement to continuously improve effectiveness, team performance, and organizational impact.
- Exceptional editorial judgment, including the ability to thoughtfully integrate AI into communications workflows while maintaining accountability for every final deliverable.
Expected salary ranges- For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $187,000 - $242,000.
- For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $168,300 - $217,800.
- For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $159,000 - $205,700.
