Job Description Summary
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining specific areas of the Environmental program areas (air, water, hazardous waste and chemical management) for GEV Nuclear Energy ensuring that all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are met. This position supports the EHS Leader and Site Operations in maintaining compliance and providing competent technical advice to ensure EHS management system requirements are met

Essential Responsibilities

As the Environmental Specialist, you will:
  • Be responsible for supporting air and water media compliance for the Wilmington site.
  • Provide technical advice and direction on environmental challenges and issues at the Wilmington site for assigned program areas.
  • Support site permitting and emissions inventory calculations for air (and/or other media as assigned)
  • Manage site waste programs and act as business waste lead.
  • Support reporting and licensing / permitting efforts to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with local regulatory agencies.
  • Support the site's Emergency Response Organization, as environmental / chemical support after obtaining EHS Advisor status.
  • Implement / modify EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of existing, new, and proposed environmental regulations for assigned program areas.
  • ISO 14001 knowledge and experience.
  • Provide project management as necessary to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and lead training programs for assigned program areas.
  • Modify and implement compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems to assure compliance.
  • Provide EHS guidance and support as required for all elements of EHS Management.
  • Evaluate the facility EHS conditions, assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans.
  • Track site progress against EHS metrics and goals.
  • Participate in EHS compliance and program audits


Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university (or a high school diploma/GED with 6+ years of relevant EHS/Environmental experience).
  • Experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience in EHS, specifically within manufacturing or fixed facility environments.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Proven experience with environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).


Desired Characteristic
  • Deep understanding of local, state, and federal environmental laws (e.g., EPA standards) to ensure audits and site assessments remain fully compliant.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Proven ability to negotiate successfully with regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of process hazard analysis (PHA) and HAZOP reviews.
  • Experience with nuclear environmental applications / regulations, radioactive emissions, and radioactive and non-radioactive air dispersion calculations / modeling.
  • Ability to communicate cross-functionally and work independently.
  • Experience / general competence with Microsoft Office Suite tools. (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Open communication style with the ability to develop team relationships.
  • Experience with Gensuite applications or equivalent reporting software.


This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Relocation Assistance Provided: No

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $85,500.00 and $142,600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
