Full Job Description
Lead Enterprise Architect, Enterprise API and Integration is an important role in leading the technology transformation efforts focused on defining the architecture, standards and governance for API development across the enterprise.

The Lead Enterprise Architect will establish and govern a comprehensive enterprise API ecosystem by bringing together API providers and consumers through a unified, business-aligned API catalog. This role ensures effective lifecycle management, promotes reuse, and drives consistency across all enterprise integrations while enabling AI-driven and agentic capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define, evolve, and promote enterprise API architecture, design patterns, and standards, including transition and target-state architectures.
  • Lead enterprise-wide API governance, including intake, design review, lifecycle management, and compliance enforcement.
  • Partner with architecture, engineering, security, data, and business teams to drive adoption of API standards and reusable integration patterns.
  • Build and scale enterprise API platforms enabling federated development, developer self-service, and catalog-driven discovery.
  • Develop AI-enabled governance capabilities, including automation, AI-ready API design, and gap detection across the API lifecycle.
  • Define and implement reference architectures for modern integration patterns, including:
    • Event-driven architectures
    • Microservices integration
    • LLM integration, RAG, and vector data platforms
  • Architect and operationalize agentic ecosystems, including orchestration frameworks and MCP-based integrations.
  • Establish governance metrics and KPIs, including API adoption, lifecycle maturity, reuse, performance, and compliance.
  • Design and deliver executive dashboards and reporting on API ecosystem health and integration outcomes.
  • Lead prototyping, proof-of-concepts, and evaluation of emerging technologies in APIs, AI, and integration.
  • Improve engineering velocity, scalability, and API quality through standardized practices and platform capabilities.
  • Coach and mentor architects and engineering teams on modern API design, governance, and integration best practices.
  • Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and industry forums to align enterprise integration strategy with industry trends.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience as a senior architect or technical lead in large-scale enterprise systems
  • 8+ years of experience in API architecture, integration, or application development
  • Strong experience with API governance frameworks and lifecycle management
  • Hands-on experience with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway)
  • Expertise in API security standards (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, mTLS, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of REST, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with monitoring, observability, and operational standards for APIs and microservices
  • Experience working in multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience building and scaling enterprise API programs and governance models
  • Experience with AI/ML integration patterns, LLM ecosystems, or agentic frameworks
  • Exposure to platform engineering and developer experience (DX) practices


Work-At-Home Requirements
To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates' ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates must meet the following criteria:
  • At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested
  • Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership
  • Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
  • Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
  • Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information


Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$142,300 - $195,700 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
