Job Description Summary
This position serves as a key leader in life underwriting transformation initiatives, driving the implementation of strategic projects, process improvements, and technology solutions that support the evolution of life underwriting operations. This role partners across life underwriting, operations, product, technology, distribution, and vendor organizations to identify opportunities, define business needs, and deliver innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, customer experience, and operational effectiveness. The Lead Analyst acts as a subject matter expert in life underwriting processes and transformation efforts, providing leadership throughout the project lifecycle including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, implementation, training, and post-launch support. This position plays a critical role in advancing life underwriting modernization strategies while fostering collaboration, managing stakeholder relationships, and supporting organizational change.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Lead life underwriting transformation initiatives that support modernization, automation, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with technical teams to ensure solutions align with life underwriting objectives and operational needs.
  • Facilitate project planning, requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and stabilization activities.
  • Serve as the life underwriting representative on cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Distribution, Technology, Product, and vendors.
  • Develop and deliver training, knowledge transfer, and communication plans to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate business readiness activities and implementation support.
  • Support release planning, production validation, and post-implementation monitoring.
  • Drive issue resolution and escalation management to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Evaluate new data sources, rules, and underwriting tools to improve decision-making.
  • Assist in managing project timelines, priorities, and stakeholder communication.
  • Serves as a primary liaison between New Business, Life Underwriting, Training & Development, Project Management, Technology, QA, Sales & Marketing, vendors, etc.
  • Coaches and mentors team members while providing project leadership without direct people management responsibility.
  • Keep abreast of relevant events in the insurance sector.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Six years of life or health underwriting experience.
  • Three years of underwriting experience within Transamerica or three years of high level experience working on an enhanced underwriting project.
  • Understanding of the enhanced underwriting user interface.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry products.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with multiple business groups, including Life Underwriting, New Business, Project Management, IT, QA, Training & Development, Sales & Marketing, etc.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Time-management skills to work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Willingness to continue education to stay current in the insurance sector.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with life underwriting workbench platforms, rules engines, and automated decisioning systems.
  • Experience supporting vendor integrations and underwriting data sources.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and accountability.
  • Completion of FALU courses or LOMA courses.
  • FLMI designation or related coursework.

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $87,000-105,000 annually. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote) and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus of 12.5% based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company's discretion.
