Full Job Description
The Role

VEIR is seeking a qualified Lead Engineer to join our System Integration & Heat Transfer team. This individual will play a key role helping characterize our superconducting cable through testbed design, operation, and data analysis. This individual will also assist in design efforts of our proprietary superconducting cable termination.

What You'll Do
  • Design and operate new testbeds to measure key electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance metrics relevant to the lifetime operation of a superconducting cable.
  • Analyze experimental data, leveraging domain expertise, published literature and reference material, to derive performance insights relevant to cable design.
  • Assist in design of subcomponents of the cable termination system involving design reviews, vendor management, procurements, testing, and analysis

Skills You Have
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, thermal, or comparable engineering, with a strong foundation in cryogenic or other thermal systems, electrical engineering basics, test design, and data analysis
  • Experience in testbed design including sensor selection, setup, and LABVIEW, experience in testing of electrical components a plus.
  • Experience in data analysis, such as through MATLAB, Python, or similar languages
  • Experience in mechanical design, CAD, and CAE (COMSOL, ANSYS, etc.) a plus.
  • A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team engagement.
  • Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.

To be successful in this role
  • You bring a solid background in engineering, with testing and cryogenic/thermal engineering fundamentals along with electrical engineering basics required for testing a superconducting cable.
  • You are excited by diving deeply into technical literature and reference material and engaging cross functionally with technical experts at VEIR and elsewhere to derive novel insight.
  • Known for your precision and your ability to ideate, iterate, and execute complex designs.
  • You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving
  • You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize
  • You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines
  • You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions
  • You are committed to buying into VEIR's mission and goals, and adopting our core values

VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. The base salary range for this position in the U.S. is $125,000 - $145,000 per year + equity + benefits. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, job level, supervisory status, and location.
