Lead Facilities Engineer
What You'll Be Doing:
The Lead Facilities Engineer reports directly to the Director of Engineering and/or VP of Operations and serves as the technical lead for facility engineering assessments, MEP system evaluations, and scope development activities across multiple client sites. This role is responsible for leading facility walkthroughs, supporting estimating and bidding efforts, mentoring engineering staff, and ensuring technical accuracy throughout the pre-construction and project planning process.
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide leadership while supporting clients and internal teams.
Lead Facilities Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
- Wearappropriate personalprotective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety practices and proceduresin accordance withOSHA standards.
- Lead comprehensive facility condition assessments and walkthroughs of MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire protection systems, building automation controls, and related infrastructure.
- Develop,maintain, and improve standardized assessment checklists,scopedocuments, and facility evaluation templates.
- Review andvalidateengineering scopes prior to client submission, ensuring accuracy of system descriptions, capacities, and existing conditions.
- Collaborate with estimating teams to convert field observations intoaccurateproject scopes, cost estimates, and proposal narratives.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact during pre-bid site visits, client meetings, andscopeclarification discussions.
- Identifydeferred maintenance items, code compliance concerns, operational deficiencies, and capital improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers and field assessment personnel.
- Coordinate closely with project managers to ensure a seamless transition from pre-construction planning to project execution.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable building codes, ASHRAE standards, NEC requirements, and industry best practices.
- Participate in engineering meetings, client presentations, and project review sessions asrequired.
- Review client-facing documents and reports for technical completeness, accuracy, and quality control.
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and communicationsregardingproject scope, risks, findings, and engineering concerns.
- Travel to client locations as necessary to perform site assessments and support project development activities.

Lead Facilities Engineer Requirements:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in MEP systems engineering, facilities assessments, construction estimating, ora relatedengineering discipline.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and building infrastructure systems.
- Extensive understanding of building codes, ASHRAE guidelines, NEC standards, and MEP system design principles.
- Experience conducting facility condition assessments and translating field observations into technicalscopedocumentation.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and construction drawings.
- Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and estimating software applications.
- Experience with CAD, BIM, or related engineering software preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting client-facing and internal technical documents.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, site assessments, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and follow-up skills.
- Experience leading teams and mentoring technical personnel preferred.
- Familiarity with Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) software platforms preferred.
- Valid driver's license with the ability and willingness to travel throughout assigned regions.
- Ability to access rooftops, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and other facility areas during site assessments.
- Ability to work occasional overtime and adjust schedules as necessary to meet client and project requirements.
