This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings Team in San Diego, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare facility design and other complex building sectors, including higher education, commercial, science & technology, and civic facilities.

You will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary projects and delivering high-quality electrical systems design from concept through construction. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges through innovative engineering solutions.

Your Impact
  • Lead electrical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio of healthcare and complex building projects.
  • Oversee the design of normal and emergency power distribution systems, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, grounding systems, low-voltage systems, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage projects from concept development through construction administration and close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Support healthcare project delivery, including compliance with FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, NEC, Joint Commission requirements, and other applicable healthcare standards.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, structural, architectural, and specialty consultants to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
  • Support client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth within the healthcare market and broader Buildings practice.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, energy standards, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, specifications, studies, and construction documents.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and professional development support to junior engineers and designers.
  • Participate in field investigations, condition assessments, and construction-phase services as required.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for building systems.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for healthcare facilities, hospitals, medical office buildings, ambulatory care centers, and/or other complex institutional facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, emergency power systems, lighting design, fire alarm systems, and applicable building codes.
  • Experience managing projects through planning, design, construction documentation, and construction administration phases.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, AGi32, or similar electrical engineering software.
  • Strong communication, leadership, project management, and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Healthcare electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience working across higher education, science & technology, commercial, and civic sectors.
  • Knowledge of sustainable design, energy-efficient building systems, and decarbonization strategies.
  • LEED AP, WELL AP, or similar professional credential.
  • Experience supporting business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship management.
  • Familiarity with Texas healthcare and building code requirements.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $115,200 - $171,100

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
