Summary

The Interventional Radiology (IR) staff is located in the Nursing Department of the Clinical Center. Interventional Radiology is a growing and evolving specialty in which both vascular and nonvascular diseases are treated by minimally invasive approaches using catheters and catheter-based instruments such as needles and wires to direct catheters and/or device(s) to desired sites without the need for surgical incisions or general anesthesia.

Duties

Help

As a Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Serve as a team leader for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists performing interventional radiology procedures, including distributing workload, monitoring work progress, and making day-to-day adjustments.
• Provide technical guidance, instruction, orientation, and on-the-job training to new and existing technologists on interventional radiology procedures, equipment, safety requirements, and work methods.
• Perform complex interventional radiology imaging procedures involving vascular and nonvascular diseases treated through minimally invasive approaches.
• Assist interventional radiologists in conducting highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic examinations/procedures.
• Operate and troubleshoot specialized imaging and related equipment, including fluoroscopy, cone beam CT, CT scanner, ultrasound console, and high-pressure injector systems.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Interventional Radiology), GS-0647-11, you must meet the following requirements:

Basic Requirement:

You must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75 and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; and be currently certified as a radiographer in your field, as evidenced by an active state or national license in good standing.

Applicants may also meet the basic requirement under one of the following provisions:

A. Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after January 13, 1986, who:

1. Received training from institutions in a state or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation; or
2. Practiced in a state or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for individuals who did not graduate from an accredited educational program; provided they show evidence of training, experience, and competence.

OR

B. Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to January 13, 1986, who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance, or certification of such from a licensed practitioner, such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic, who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.

Specialized Experience:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing complex interventional radiology imaging procedures; assisting physicians with specialized diagnostic or therapeutic interventional radiology procedures; operating and troubleshooting specialized radiographic or interventional imaging equipment; providing technical guidance, training, or assistance to other radiologic technologists or clinical staff; and monitoring image quality, radiation safety, or procedural compliance.

• This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
