Full Job Description
The Lead Development Engineer will lead product development activities from concept through commercial release, including new product introductions, sustaining engineering, and line extensions for bioprocessing equipment. As part of the R&D team, this role independently develops technical solutions, leads engineering workstreams, and collaborates across functions to deliver safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
This position reports to the Principal Hardware Engineer and is part of the R&D team based in Marlborough, MA, with occasional work in Shrewsbury, MA. This is an on-site role.
What you will do:
• Lead the design, development, and refinement of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems to meet performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability goals.
• Create and review engineering drawings, specifications, 3D models, and other design outputs using CAD tools and standard design practices.
• Maintain bills of materials (BOMs) in MRP/ERP systems and lead engineering change request (ECR) and engineering change order (ECO) activities.
• Define and document design inputs while maintaining traceability between requirements, design outputs, risk management, and verification activities throughout product development in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
• Lead technical activities for assigned projects by mentoring junior engineers, facilitating design reviews, resolving technical challenges, and promoting engineering best practices.
Who you are:
• You have a BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a master's degree is a plus.
• You have 3 or more years of product development experience. Experience with bioprocessing equipment, life sciences, medical devices, industrial equipment, or other regulated products is preferred.
• You are proficient in engineering documentation, product development processes, and mechanical design principles, including GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis. Experience with Creo, PLM/PDM systems, FEA, and applicable product safety and regulatory standards is a plus.
• You enjoy hands-on engineering work and have experience with prototype fabrication and testing, including metal and plastic fabrication, drilling, cutting, assembly techniques, fastener selection, welding methods, additive manufacturing (3D printing), troubleshooting, and evaluation of hardware designs.
• You can independently execute engineering projects, perform technical analysis and problem solving, contribute to risk management and root-cause investigations, mentor junior engineers, collaborate effectively across functions, and work with suppliers and external manufacturing partners to support product development and lifecycle improvements.

The annual salary range for this role is $87,000 to $100,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
