Responsibilities

Overview

Join our dynamic engineering team to support and develop new products for the leader in the Food Retailing Industry. This position will support a variety of new and existing products and projects.

The Lead Design Engineer will be responsible for leading an engineering team in the execution of a variety of Engineering projects, including new product releases, product modifications, value engineering, and quality / manufacturing corrective actions. This role will work with cross functional teams (Product Management, Manufacturing, Program Management, Supply Chain, etc.) to deliver the Hussmann Promise of Continuously Providing the most Customer-Focused Solutions in the Food Retail Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the conceptual design and overall development of refrigerated display case modifications and implementing corrective actions for quality or manufacturing issues.
  • Design for Manufacturing using knowledge in formed sheet metal, fabricated copper tubing, electrical assemblies, welded structural frames, product sub-assemblies, and top-level system assemblies.
  • Understand our customers' needs and follow the processes required for developing and releasing the product at a high-quality level, on-time to customer request.
  • Plan and coordinate implementation of product releases within PLM system.
  • Leading and improving the overall innovation, quality, function, and cost of the product.
  • Initiate studies of new and existing designs to incorporate new cost-effective technology to maintain our competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with project team of multi-functional and multi-departmental personnel for on-time release of quality and cost-effective products.
  • Performs hands-on troubleshooting efforts and implements corrective actions for products, processes, and tooling.
  • Drive accuracy within team for all engineering information issued regarding assigned projects. This includes PLM related attributes, BOM structure, product specifications, test reports, design review documentation, etc.
  • Validate new designs through prototype builds and first-article inspections. Lead the resolution of any issues identified on the manufacturing floor
  • Develop and communicate project plans and status.
  • Maintain technical competence and up-to-date knowledge on all relevant mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and computer technologies. Attend training courses as needed.
  • Direct and approve work of Engineers and Designers
  • Train, coach and develop team members
  • Leads the development of test plans and configurations, supports test execution and analyzes/reports test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Execute tasks and lead projects with minimal direction
  • Develop analytical metrics/tools to improve effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of internal processes

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Product Design experience, preferably in the Refrigeration industry
  • People leader experience, preferred.
  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Competent using 3D solid modeling (SolidEdge preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills, oral & written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills


Preferred Experience
  • Project management experience and a general understanding of Manufacturing processes preferred
  • Understand refrigeration systems, thermo-dynamics, heat transfer and structural analysis principles. Intermediate electrical component, controls, and circuit knowledge.
  • Sheetmetal Design experience a plus.
  • PLM System Experience - Teamcenter, Windchill, etc.
  • MRP System Experience - Oracle, Mapics, BAAN, SAP etc.
